Crash +Sound Issue

I managed to play through the prologue just fine, but now I am on the 1st of the human campaingns missions and I am having a serious issue where out of no where and at no particular spot in the game the sound coming out of my speakers is just a bunch of static noises and the game freezes. Here is my system
AMD Athlon Thunderbird 1.4Ghz
Elitegroup K7S5A Motherboard
512 meg of SDRAM
Sound Blaster PCI 512
Geforce 4 Ti 4200 with 128 meg of memory
Altec Lansing 2.1 Speakers
I have the latest drivers for sound and video, DX9 and I also have the latest patch for the game. I am also currently playing another recent title when I am not playing Warcraft III and I have not had a single issue with that game so I do not know if I am having a software issue or a hardware one. I have read something on these boards about changing the sound settings so I will try that and see if anything happens. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Edit the warcraft 3 shortcut from something like this this:
"C:\Program Files\Warcraft III\Warcraft III.exe"
to something like this this:
"C:\Program Files\Warcraft III\Warcraft III.exe" -opengl
And see if it works. This should force the game in to running on OpenGL, rather then DirectX. It seems to fix this problem for many, many people.

I changed the shortcut like you said and no luck. It still did it twice more. I should mention that I tried playing with a different sound card as well. The onboard sound on my motherboard. Its something like ac97 codec or something like that. Same thing happened with it. This is really starting to frustrate me. I hope Blizzard can solve this for me in an email because the wait for tech support over the phone is too long considering it is a long distance call and I cant get help on B.net because the game does this crap before I can ever get help there.
