(not really seeking help just asking why thats why i put it in this forum + i dont visit hardware/software so... )

you are probably running 98 or Me, which both do not manage memory well. after downloading nonstop for 3 days, evidently your virtual memory is gone, therefore there is no where to store anything else without rebooting to refresh it's memory.
more ram would help, but the real fix is XP. XP manages memory much better than 98 or ME. i run XP with 1gb of ddr pc2100 ram, which translates to........ i never have to even remotely think about rebooting my computer over a very long period of time.

the hardware and software forums are not limited to just tech support you know ... if you have anything related to it, then post it in the appropriate forum ... I don't care if you visit them or not

well, we're all dying to know: how well does cacheman work?

I work for an ISP and I hear about this problem frequently. 95, 98, and ME all have had problems with this for a while and part of it is the memory management problem. The rest of it is that they were not built to deal with any kind of network connection primarily in mind. Internet connectivity with these OS's were more of an after thought when MS designed them. They need to be rebooted frequently in order to maintain any kind of network socket connection and have to have the OS reloaded almost once a year if used on a regular basis. Memory management programs like ya'll discussed might help some, but the real solution is like nocode said..........switch to Windows XP if at all possible. It was designed with network and internet connectivity in mind and has much, much fewer problems. Good luck with it!

I've heard a lot of really bad things about XP though, like something like you have to call them to reinstall it and you can only do so 10 times, etc, etc. That's why I didn't put it on my new computer. Is all that stuff really true?

No.
You have to re-activate it if your hardware profile changes to drastically in one session I believe, but that doesn't even take 5 minutes.
A few tweaks with the GUI, and WinXP looks and feels like Win2k, except it’s about 10x faster.

i may get it then... I'll look into it anyways.

If a reinstallation of the software is needed, is reactivation required?

Not always. If the same version of the software is reinstalled on the same machine and the hard disk is not reformatted prior to reinstalling, the software will remain activated. Reactivation will be required if the hard disk is reformatted and the software is reinstalled. This is because the software's activation status is stored on the hard drive and reformatting the hard drive erases that status.

How many installations can be made with one product license? Has this changed with the introduction of Product Activation?

Re-installation and re-activation on the same PC can be done an unlimited number of times.
