Max Payne Mousing Problem...

Yeah, Yeah, I behind the times... Anyways, here's the problem...
I use a Microsoft Intellipoint Optical with 2 buttons a wheel and two side buttons. I have the two side buttons setup to do strafing motion. Now in Max Payne (Only game this problem occurs), The strafing motion seems to "stick" and going left.. Could be quite tragic when you can't stop it... Not that it only does it on left... But it also does it going right, and sometimes.. I press the button after the problem happens.. And I can't strafe.. Now I have the latest update for the Intellipoint software, and don't have any problems with any other games.. I updated Max Payne to the newest version available..
Any idea's what could be causing this?
By the way, the setup is "custom" in terms..
Left button is "Delete" and Right button is "Backspace". The keyboard buttons work, even when the mouse doesnt..
Thanks ahead of time...

I've experienced a similar "stuck key" mousing issue in certain games with my Logitech's scroll wheel.
I discovered that switching the mouse to USB resolved the issue, but unfortunately created an even greater one that caused my mouse to stop responding completely, forcing me to end task/shutdown or force a hard boot. I switched back over to PS/2 and that issue stopped.
Logitech released a patch file for this particular issue related to the scroll wheel, but it did not work for me.
Microsoft may have something similar, but given that it's only happening in a single game, you may just have to use a workaround (i.e. not using those buttons for that purpose).
If your mouse supports both USB and PS/2 try one over the other, it might help.
