Hey everyone. I posted WAYYY back when about being able to get my dreamcast online using msn. it worked. the only problem is, the latest version of the NFL games that sega made for the dc is 2k2. there was NO ONE ELSE IN THE COUNTRY that was online with 2k2 when i was. i had to go to segasports.com to register a user name, but they dont even list 2k2 in their list of games?! has anyone else experienced this?

I don't know if this has anything to do with your problem, but, Sega stopped manufacturing and supporting the Dreamcast a long time ago.

i realize this, but arent there enough dreamcast owners out there that someone would be playing online at any given point?

Considering the current consoles and online systems available, I think it would be safe to assume that there's not too many Dreamcast users online at any given time.

The group of people that are online probably aren't playing NFL 2k2. I would say your best bet for online play on the Dreamcast is Phantasy Star Online.

Yeah PSO is about the only DC game that is still played online.

We pulled Quake 3 up the other night and no one was on then either.

Hey man, I remember when you had your question. Glad it worked

Anyways, The Dreamcast and especially the online world is dead. I'm the biggest DC fan around, and its hard to admit- but the Dreamcast is done.

Didnt sega shut down Seganet for DC?

Yeah, I read somewhere that Jan 1, 2003, Sega would shut down all the Dreamcast Servers.

It's tragic that SegaNet has closed it's doors (no pun intended).
But as for NFL 2K2, it's a great game that, unfortunately, had it's sequel on other systems. It seems to me also that sequel sports games just aren't likely to maintain a fanbase on-line. I mean, once the sequel comes out, it has the updated roster, the better graphics, physics, playbook, etc. In order for a sports title to hold a fanbase, it has to become legendary first. Then it has to be upgradable to new rosters available for free on-line. That's the only way people would keep caring about one specific game. NFL 2K2 kicked ass in most of our opinions (when I'm not being pummeled by j_crouch), but as for the majority of those out there - they've probably never given the title a chance, and now that 2K3 is out, they never will. F---ing ESPN! Damn them for taking away the precious Sega flair.
On a side note, I hear Sony is considering purchasing Visual Concepts (I think that's their name). So we might see a Gameday in the future that plays a lot like 2K3.

it's true - it's true. pakenney38 introduced me to this site - we're friends in the offline sense as well. i went online with my dc after the playoff games were over, and more people started to get online. i even played a quarter w/ someone. (he was in wash dc, though, and the lag was too serious for me to continue.) too bad sega didnt ask for a mailing address to send the $10/month bill to... hehehe
