hey just a question but do yall keep all your mp3s in 1 folder do u separate them(by type) or do u just dl them and leave them where they dl and just hook um up to your playlists?...
im just asking kuz i have my mp3s in like 3 main folders and now that i gotta copy by hand my playlists(even though they are small) it will prove kinda difficult because my mp3s are scattered... do any of you guys have this problem or do u solve it b4 it even starts? heh

I solved it by not downloading any ...

Mine are sort of scattered. I do have an MP3 folder that has other folders in it seperated by catergory, but their not very organized. I dont have a whole lot of music MP3's, I do have a lot of comedy stuff and theme music. Most of the Mp3's I have though are ripped by my own CD's. Sometimes before I buy an album or hear a really good song on Radio/MTV I go check it out on WinMX. I cant stay organized though no matter what I try. Stuff gets moved, renamed and its CHAOS! CHAOS I TELL YOU!

I tried to organize my mp3s by naming them all and making a nicely organized playlist, but everytime I tried, it wouldnt come out right.
I gave up.

I have everything very well organized, it just took an eternity to get it done.

Same. Every MP3 I download gets saved to the desktop, where I rename it to fit the way my list is organize, remove all the ID tags, and move it to my MP3 directory which is in my WinAMP master directory ^_~

Bah. I one thing that burns me up after looking over the list that some songs DO NOT change no matter what you do to them.
"Unkown Artist - Soul Reaver intro"
The file name is 'Soul Reaver - Intro.mp3'. All the tags are gone yet it still shows up like that.
Nasty.

i have about 30gb of mp3's and shn's that are in one folder, that is broken down in to sub directories by the artist, then the album. my live shows are in this same folder under the artist, year, then the exact place and date of the show.
i've been in the process of ripping my entire cd collection for months and months and still have not made it half way through all of my cd's.

My mp3's go into a few different dirs, depending on the way I download them. Every once in a while I just put them all in my main mp3 dir (in an artist-album dir), and recreate my playlist.
btw, if you're using winamp, goto the playlist, click on the add button, then on add dir and choose your main mp3 dir, every dir under that one and all the mp3's in them will get added to your playlist too.

I've had that too, then someone in another thread gave me a free tag remover program, that did the trick. I'll see if I can find it again...

Bobaroo already beat me to it. Use that tag remover it works well and I haven't had a problem with it.
I have around 3000 songs in my playlist 98% of which I own the CDs. I used to categorize them, but when I rebuilt my new machine last year I just dumped them all into the My Music folder in My Documents.

I have a seperate partition for MP3's and I also sort them into different folders for different bands once I d/l it. My collection is nice and neat.

11 gigs.. one folder.. with some sub folders.. 3 years of collecting them.. I try to keep them in some kind of order. even if it just an unorignized mess to others..

i sooo need to organize my shit but i prolly wont i mean damn itd take me a month
allso do yall put your music in diff playlists by the type of music or do you just add all the music to the same playlist? heh

I just keep all my mp3s in one folder, then group them into more folders by the bands. I rarely use playlists, though. I usually listen to individual bands with a Winamp plugin I use. It allows me to type anywhere something like 'winamp play cake' and it'll play all songs with 'cake' in it.

I have 2 folders with mp3's in them. I use one for the old mp3's that I don't use or I know I'm not going to listen to, and then I have my other folder for newer stuff, and stuff I'll always come back to. I just build my playlists with Winamp and take it from there

I have every MP3 in order, here's an example...
Music - > Band Name (Various Singles) - > Album Name (All songs from that album)
I have my Comedy MP3's in a comedy dir arranged by the comedian who performed them.
I have my music WELL organized. I download into a totally seperate directory and add the songs accordingly when I get more than 10 or so in my download folder.
I have almost 1000 again, even though I have dial-up I don't know the size but I could care, so I won't check.
I've been very organized. Organizing them is the hardest part, keeping them organized is easy, if you take the time to do it.
And as for the tags... That's easy, Winamp can do it for you. Just right click the scrolling name and it lets you edit both the new ID's and the older ID's. And it works too.
I have no songs other than a slipknot live album without the name and artist in the ID tag. (I could just care less for that Slipknot album, I may delete it soon... heh
