The appeals court threw out a jury's finding that Rambus had committed fraud while working with a technical standards body that set standards for the memory chips used in the world's computers. German memory chip company Infineon had accused Rambus of lobbying the standards body, the Joint Electron Devices Engineering Council (JEDEC), to adopt a specific set of chip technologies without disclosing that it held patents to those very technologies.

The court also revived Rambus' fight to force Infineon to pay royalties on a type of memory chip called Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory, or SDRAM, which accounts for more than 40% of the memory chips shipped in the world.
