Dumb TV makers who can't tell red from white

Since when was it decided that no one ever needs the red audio jack in TVs anymore? Don't all VCRs and DVD machines plug in ALL THREE audio and video jacks?
At first I thought it was only for the really cheapo small TVs (<15 inches) that they did this - because they thought that for such small TVs it didn't matter anyway.
So I'm lookin' at TVs on BestBuy.com (free shipping right now for all orders) and the really cool 19 inch Samsung TV/VCR combo has from A/V inputs, but only two.
OK fine, maybe because it's in the front - and most A/V jacks in the front only have white and yellow.
So I look at the Samsung 19" TV only, which has both front and back A/V jacks. And... well, take a look yourself. Click on "Back view" to the left of the tiny picture.
It's not just Samsung TVs that do this... I'm using these two Samsung TVs as an example because they're the ones I'm really considering getting. EVERY TV MANUFACTURER does this nowadays. Do they think that people don't need BOTH left and right sound anymore? What are these companies thinking?

It's not a biggie if its mono on a small set that's meant to be mobile or fit into a tight space.

Our family bought a 19 inch 5 years ago and it didn't have a red audio jack. IIRC it was only white and yellow. That TV' is collecting dust now.

two speakers=red av spot
one speaker =just yellow and white

Out of curiosity does anyone know if red and white represent left and right audio, or if both of them has a little bit of both?
I've always had the (mis)conception that red and white correspond to left and right.
But now that I think about it that doesn't make sense because when you connect speakers to a main system or to a subwoofer, you also run two lines for each speaker - one red and one black, usually.

They do.

the second wire you run to the speakers is the equivalent of a ground wire.
