I am tired of getting halfway through the news and hearing about more job layoffs.....my father was laid off last friday and how he has to find another while he watches all his friends lose their jobs after him.....most every large factory where i live is either leaving the area or making major layoffs....to tell you the truth it pisses me off considering it ****s over my whole plans for doing anything at all in the month of feburary considering we are flat broke and bills are riding their way up......i guess i don't understand the point in firing all your good american workers and moving to mexico or hiring cheap help............i don't really know what i mean yet i just used this to express my feelings i have no problems with mexicans so no offense........

Dubya will start bombing Iraq soon, that will jumpstart the economy pretty good.

No, actually, it won't. Modern war doesn't mobilize the economy the way it did in the 50s. Vietnam didn't jumpstart the economy. The economy sucked after Desert Storm, too.. remember? The poor economic conditions during and after Desert Storm, and the fact that the president was seen as focusing too heavily on the military and not enough on the economy... that cost Bush the Elected his presidency back in 1992.

I couldn't agree more, I am also in the same predicament. They call it a "buisness move" we were doing good even after 9-11, then the company decided to move some operations to another facility to better utilize it. This new facility is under utilized and they want to make it look good! Problem is there is no union there and they seem to have problems with the jobs sent there.

We have fixed alot of their screw ups in the past and this is the thanks we get. You know is funny how they say that americans lack loyalty to the company, and they do shit llike this! I'm almost 44 and have to start all over again, just like so many other people. I have a question for the company's where the hell is the loyalty to the great ol' USA??

companies arent supposed to be loyal to america. they are loyal to thier shareholders. its called business. now, if you want loyalty, join tecil in his choice of employers. they might be assholes, but they cant outsource

Yes, that is true. I almost got carried away thinking about the American Dream.

Capitalism means that companies are run to improve capital (money/income) and that they have show no loyalty to anything else that doesn't contribute to making more money

which is really sad when you think about it....

Capitalism is a double edged sword. In a slightly more socialist situation, you have less occurences of this kind of thing (though it does happen). Recently Canada paid a company something like 25 million dollars to stay in Canada instead of laying off all their workers and moving somewhere else.

which is once again sad.....i don't know what to do now....

At least you're not the one being laid off. Learning to cut corners off your budget at an early age isn't necessarily a bad thing...

Not that it doesn't suck...

Hah, you cannot really understand or empathize with the effects of being laid off until it happens to you ... Being laid off, especially at this critical juncture of the US economy, is a huge blow to people everywhere who have families to support, or bills to pay.

The thing that most working people are scared about is not as much the fact that they can be laid off, but rather the possibility that they may not be able to get a new job for a long time...

And unemployment payment only lasts so long.

Getting laid off is rough. My husband got laid off after 9-11 and man did we struggle. We had to switch gears. He was working assembly line, but had alot of office skills so he went to a temp agency and they placed him in an office and he got hired permanent. Whatever you do dont give up! You cant let them beat you cos then they win.
