Read the comments, they are quite funny. I wonder what will happen when the 1 year free of Xbox live runs out and they gotta pay a fee for that. Perhaps another petition?

You don't have to pay the monthly fee, because you don't have to play it online. BUT, you do have to have a Live account even if you don't plan on playing it online.
I was going to buy this on release day mainly because my wife and I loved the DC version even though we couldn't play together. This has up to 4-players on one Xbox so for us to be able to play offline together is A++ in my book.
I'll probably end up playing the 2 months free online, but who the hell wants to pay 8.95 for static hack n slash gameplay thats not even a MMORPG.

I signed up because it was free for a year. I hardly ever use it though, as no one I know ever seems to be on. I'll probably cancel when they start billing me.
Banner adds don't pay that much last time I checked.

That was the point...
In one of the petition signers comments he said he could deal with it, if they did banner advertising in the lobby like they do on b.net to pay for the service.

Well at least it's better than PS2 online. A friend of mine has it and he has to pay 5 bucks per game or something like that.
