GREENSBORO -- Guilford County Schools has formed a first-of-its-kind partnership with Red Hat to train students to use the company's computer operating system.

Red Hat, a Raleigh-based software provider, announced Tuesday that the Weaver Education Center in Greensboro will become the first public school in the world to offer Red Hat Linux training and certification. Red Hat Linux is an operating system that competes with Microsoft Windows.

Students at Weaver will be able to learn Red Hat Linux starting this fall. In addition, students can complete a program to become a Red Hat certified technician. The program, called the Red Hat Academy, was announced at a press conference Tuesday at Weaver.

Depending on how this does, I assume the program could grow as large as Cisco's current high school CCNA program. Do I hear Microsoft shaking? More is at News-Record.
