Disable auto protect?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I recently put a new motherboard into my computer (same model and brand just an updated version). Since I have done this whenever my CPU temp reaches 130F it will freeze and I will have to hard reboot.

This strikes me as an auto protect feature on the motherboard, but I have found nothing in the manual about this.

My motherboard is an ECS K7S5A version 3.x

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Did this happen with the old board? You could try flashing teh BIOS if not already done so.

Nope, never happend with the old mobo and the BIOS is current.

did you install the cpu? if you did you might want to redo the thermal paste and reseat the heatsink. if the mobo has some overheat protection there should be settings in the bios other wise you probably dont want to disable this setting since it might be preventing you from frying the chip. better to figure out why its overheating, though 130 is high but acceptable for that cpu. I was getting the same temps with a xp 2600 + stock heat sink. it was because of my mini atx case with the power supply right over the heatsink. I just replaced it with a server case and temps went down to about 43 idle.

Great, I am getting a new case in tomorrow, currently I have a mini-mid tower, with the psu rite over the heatsink/fan. The new case has a built in exhaust duct that expells some of the hot air from the cpu. So since you had luck with going bigger case wise, I hope I will as well.

Thanks.
