Floppy troubles ..

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Ok,

So i have a problem a friend of mine was messing with her computer , so she brings it to me to see what the problem is .. she states that her floppy drive cant be seen from the My computer field ..

I check her floppy cable and it is unplugged .. and when i take a closer look at the situation it seems she is missing 2 pins from the motherboard male connection ..

is there any way that i could go about fixing this with out having to get her a brand new board ..

You can't fix broken pins. However, a quick google search shows that there are a few unused pins, exactly which ones are missing?

I think he's talking about the pins on the floppy IDE connection...

Even if you bought 'replacement' pins, I don't see how you can stick em back in.

lol hes not talking about the one on the floppy drive(by the way its not IDE its FDD) because he wouldn't be concerned about her motherboard...

My first question is : How the helk do you break exactly two pins off the mobo if your not even opening the case... I mean pins don't usually decide to suddenly leave to cause troubles..

Give us some more details : Ask her if she ever used the floppy drive , how she "herself " could have damaged it... and also take a look and make sure they're not the pins that OUTLAW said because if I remember correctly , floppy drives for some reason are purposely missing two pins
or one Im not sure.........

I did not mean on the drive, I meant on the motherboard. Assuming can make you look like an idiot sometimes.

Secondly, we don't care what happened or how she got those two pins knocked off in the first place. They want to know if it's possible to fix the situation.

I don't know of any solution to that but does she really need her floppy drive in the first place? If she's already on a post 98SE Windows OS, all she really needs is her CD-drive.

Of course if she does, a motherboard replacement might be in order. Unless someone's awfully good with the soldering iron.

soldering iron wont help, it needs to be continuous. once those pins break, they stay broken. if they are indeed broken, and not just missing.

Heh.. open up Paint and draw us a little picture of the pins. Seriously.

you guys are hilarious.. it seems she was exploring on her own .. with no knowledge at all , and pulled the floppy cable a little too hard ..

she must have pulled out the pins in the process , by the way they weren't missing i found one of the pins on the fd cable.. so it seems she yanked a little to hard ..

But like I said, there are a few unused pins. Which ones are missing?

pardon the cheesy art work .. lol

Those are the last 2 pins, right?

If it are those, then I think you're lucky, they're just for grounding purposes. I'm pretty sure it should still work without them. I wouldn't recommend using the floppy cable with the broken pins in it though, either find some way to get them out (hahaha) or somehow get another cable to try it out.

In your picture, what's that red circle-thing below the word "these"? Was that supposed to point out something too?

I think it's a "2"...Paint has the ability to add text, should try that out.
