Seems that people using a similar type of duct on their heatsink had their temps drop by 10c. When you put this duct on, it allows full airflow to go onto the heatsink, if you just have a fan flat over it, you get something called an "Air Pocket Burble" right behind the center of the fan. Its essentially dead air because there are no fins in the middle of the fan moving the air.

that looks interesting, but i am curious if it would work on my copper Volcano 7+ heatsink. it says it's compatable with the Volcano 7,9, and 11, but doesn't mention the 7+. i remember from my reading on the 7+, that they addressed the dead air issue by raising the fan up off of the heatsink to add some space between the two. this design here, however, looks as if it may work better than just simply creating a gap between the sink and fan like the 7+.
