Could you post your system specs and the wattages of each of the power supplies you went through. It would help a lot.

six psu's......that's Insane!
what exactly happens when you turn the computer on? have you returned each power supply that has blown, and are you completely sure that each psu was dead? is this a computer that you have just built, or is it a system that has worked in the past?

well the machine usually runs for a day or so, then dies with a loud bang(a capacitor?) the cheap ones died with the power off (yes i use a ups and surge protectors) the good ones died shortly after the 5th or 6th boot while the machine was on

Wow!........ok, so i'll ask again, is this a new system that you have just built, or has it ran properly in the past?
i guess the 1st thing i would do, would be to completely disassemble the unit. inspect everything as you tear it down to see if any part of the motherboard is making contact with the case or if anything appears to be damaged on the board. it should be mounted on the small round studs than should have came with the motherboard, and deffinitely use the paper washers.
after reassembling the motherboard, i would only connect the bare essentials to get the computer to post and let it run like that for a day or so. if it runs ok, then start adding things one by one. if it doesn't run, then that would probably indicate that something is wrong with your motherboard.
i was just thinking about that UPS you mentioned. has your computer been hooked to it each time you've lost a PSU? if it has, maybe try just using a normal surge protector instead of it to rule out any possibility of it being the problem.
all of my suggestions are really a Stretch here because i have never seen someone go through that many power supplies. someone else may have some better suggestions than what i do. Wow!

hmmm, you say you use both ups and surge protectors. is the ups plugged into the wall, or a surge protector? details!
