Honestly, who the hell is Norah Jones? I was dumbfounded when I saw her picture on the news...

Same here, Cheese.
Then again, last year I had no clue who Ashanti was, either (still don't, really), but she won a bunch of awards last year.. Guess I'm out of the loop on current popular music, as usual...

A really cool jazz singer.
Easy site for info (courtesy of Google): http://www.norahjones.com
Edit: Oh and Shal, she never thought her music would become pop.

Never heard of her...

Strangely enough, Norah Jones is the daughter of Ravi Shankar.

I've herad Norah Jones since she just before she really hit it big. She is something of a radio sweetheart to a station I listen to (92.9 WBOS out of Boston, MA). She won 5 Grammys, no? Glad to hear she did well, I think she is a very talented artist (saw her for the first time the other day on tv... she's no slouch in the looks department either. But then again in today's music industry you'd have a hard time if you were beautiful anyway)

My sister was the first one in my family (as usual) to listen to her music, then it eventually trickled over to me as a lot of her music tends to do. I have a friend who sings a lot (and is damn good at it) who loves Jazz and who loves Norah Jones. The music is pretty rox0r.

Ok, I just saw Norah on Letterman tonight. That's jazz? The only thing jazz about that song was the stand-up bass (which is way too cool). Otherwise, it was just a country song.

She sang "Lonestar" which is a little more country than most her other songs.
Listen to some of her title songs, like "Don't Know Why" or "Come Away With Me" - neither of which you should find with difficulty on the radio. Two other favorites of mine are "Feelin' the Same Way" and "Seven Years".

Oh Shal, Ashanti is a very new (well last year she was very new) hip hop artist... she does a lot of joint songs with Ja Rule... Some of the most played songs of hers would be "Foolish" and Ja Rule's "Always On Time."
Not exactly my preference of music, but it's better than most hip-hop and rap I get subjected to every now and then (when I used to go on trips to tournaments with the guys at the bowl back home, practically the entire van listened only to hip/hop-rap and only a little bit of pop/rock).

Ashanti also does alot of song writing for Murda Inc and other people and wrote a song for J Lo i think, very talented songwriter.

i cant believe how good norah jones did. i mean shes ok but compared to who she was aginst she sux... i mean out of all the things she won for every other person she was aginst writes their own music and plays insturments and she doesnt do shit... the only good thing out fo the gramys was eminem winning best rap artist. and then some of the performances.

well i wouldnt know pepsi as i didnt see the grammys, do you remember who she was up against? i couldve sworn she played the piano and wrote most (if not all) of the album but that my be my mistaken interpretation (wouldnt be the first time )

Music is too much of a personal preference to really say who's right or who's wrong.
Talent, however, is a rather objective thing - and Norah's definitely got a lot of that compared to most of the people she was up against.
