Which is better: Babylon 5 or Deep Space 9?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I posted a topic about this on Tecil's forums, but hey, I got bored so I decided to post a poll about it here...

So without further ado ... go...

I'm a jock and/or I haven't watched any of these shows

Yup...

They're both so wicked I can't decide!
But if I was say, buying the entire series of one on DVD and couldn't afford both, I'd probably go for Bab5 just because it's got a bit more of an epic feel to it than DS9 did, granted DS9 rocks the hizouse, but Bab5 is so much more original than any startrek.

Well I was never a jock, but for the sake of the poll I am.

I never watched either of them. Call me an asshat I guess...hehe

DS9 by far. Mix of TNG favorites with new characters. And dont forget about that wormhole!

DS9 gets my vote.... never got into babylon.

in a related note... does anyone here think DS9 is better than TNG? I was reading IGN's preview of the upcoming DS9 dvds and they claimed DS9 to be the best Star Trek series ever. Of course I know better and know that TNG is the best... what do you all think?

Yes, I liked DS9 the most out of all the Star Trek series, great acting, had like an old western feel to it, only in space. Of course the first season or two weren't that great but just like TNG as it progressed it got much better.

DS9 was much better than TNG. the characters were fully developed, and were the center of a good many episodes. unlike TNG, which, while entertaining, was mostly about "what strange thing can we come up with for this episode"

in the poll, i voted both. i loved them both.

I dunno, I liked TNG better, coz they were always finding something new to explore, and I have come to know Star Trek for its "trek" part, which is exploration, boldly going where no man has gone before.

DS9 is just a different animal altogether, and (to me) wasn't really all that "exciting" and doesn't have a sense of urgency that TNG had. Granted, TNG (as with TOS) had huge amounts of self-contained shows, and was very accessible to people who cannot watch the series in order or follow the story arcs of each episode.

I watched probably close to 15-20 episodes of DS9 but I never totally knew what the hell was happening at any given time. DS9 regularly had 3-part or even 5-part episodes (I heard the series finale was actually a part of a TEN-part episode, whoa!). So I guess the fact that I didn't get to follow the story religiously beyond the pilot episode may have had something to do with it. The only things I really liked about it are the space battles.

But that contradicts my experience with Babylon 5, which I only started watching starting on their third season. I got into it immediately and there was more "action" taking place than those heavy "chat fests" in DS9 .. and B5 just seemed to contain more subplots that you can shake a stick at while making you try and guess what happens next, compared to DS9, which force feeds the plot to you and tells you where to go.

Maybe it's just a matter of taste, but I just had a better experience with B5... it was grittier, more intelligent, and had more "style" than DS9... not to mention it had better ships, and better-acting aliens

Better aliens definately. Star Trek aliens are really unoriginal and too human, but hey, that's what roddenberry wanted, heh.

Never got into Babylon 5. I couldn't get in to the characters, I guess.

They both suck.
The only good channels are the playboy channel and cartoon network, sometimes HBO. Screw SCI-FI. I don't like them anymore.

Babylon 5 was a very original series, but I could never get enthusiastic about it. Maybe it's because DS9 station looked way tougher than Bab 5's.

Off topic and for the record:

ST: TOS = ST: TNG > Enterprise > ST: DS9 > dog shit >> ST: Voyager

Posted by: Spider

You like Enterprise better than DS9? ick

That's funny, the 9-year-old from the apartment beside us said almost the exact same thing a few weeks ago, lol ...

he also said he preferred Cinemax than HBO...

id say they all blow chunks

Posted by: Darky!

That 9 year old has good taste. I like him already, except for the cinemax part.

And the cartoon network is amazing. Porn>Adult Swim>Everything Else.
