The Barnes and Noble Kid

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Ghetto Blasta

Remember awhile back when some kid came up to me in Barnes and Noble while I was wearing an OTS shirt to ask me how I got a female even though I had a computer oriented shirt?

Well that ****er is in drivers ed with me! To top it off, he sits right next to me. Fortunatley there's a 4' gap between us, other wise I might stangle him.

Holy god, he is the most annoying person on the face of the earth. He constintly calls out "witty" remarks when the instructor asks a question and immediatly looks over to make sure I'm amused. He has this strange idea that simple because I've touched a computer I'm going to be his bestest friend by default.

Punching him in the head will discourage him.

I concur.

Can you people be a little less obvious about your TMOL references?

wuss

Posted by: AltronHGX

Seriously. A simple [img] placement in this thread of The Great Tiger would have easilly made this one of the best threads ever.

GB, I know the specific variety of loser you are describing and I have to admit, they are an interesting specimen. The thing you need to know about them first and foremost: they have thick skin. You don't go through life with a cripplingly weak set of social skills and not get at least a little blow-back. So the brain devises this very complex form of insanity that keeps them from noticing things like when everyone just made plans without them or that someone else just made the anecdote they just told about a 'really cool flea market find' sound trite. Keep that in mind.

Second issue to keep in mind is: you're gonna have to deal with this guy until the end of drivers ed. So when you do decide upon the way in which you are gonna make it clear to this guy that he's a pain in your ass, do it at the right time. The 'right time' for you may be tomorrow or it may be after the course is over. It's just an issue of how much awkward anxiety you can handle being forced to deal with.

Those people are great cause you can tell them to their face that you think they are the most despicable person ever, and you hope they choke to death the next time they try and drink some water, and you can even resort to personal insults (or even truths!) and they'll just act like you are joking.

Good luck. Oh, and violence doesn't even discourage them :/

choke spit die

Posted by: Erekose

i dont suppose it would be at all possible to just tolerate the bastard, would it? i mean it's not as if it is for any real length of time, and even if it were so what?

Posted by: seperoth

how can i get an ots shirt

Posted by: seperoth

nevermind i figured it out myself

Posted by: Freak

Dude I think the guy sitting next to you may actually be an OTS'er...

Good enough reason to avoid them!

ahhh it must be erekose

(hes the only one who stood up for the kid)

Posted by: Erekose

heh nah. it's just that, from time to time, we will have to be around people we do not like (or just really can't stand). but seeing as we can't drop a heavy rock on their heads and push them into a deep hole just because they annoy us, might as well learn how to tolerate (read "ignore") them. you never know, the crazy freak may just be cool in his own right... then again most likely not, but you never know

Posted by: uh...ok

And it's kind of sad that Erek was the only one who stood up for the kid.

Give people a chance before you judge them.

I know what its like for you. In graphic design the kid that sits next to me has all these stupid wisecracks, and just about said everyline line from Monty Python: Holy Grail. This guy is just palin annoying but i try to just ignore him. Though in my situation i can use a cd player, i dont suppose that would work in your case.

Posted by: TheeMon

dude i dunno about ur drivers ed class but in mine we were aloud cd players and to sleep-kinda... just be like hey man no offence or anything but i dont wanna be friends- so get lost ok? if he laughs be like im serious please leave me alone and walk away

Huh? What were you graded on if you were allowed to just screw around and sleep?

Yeah, you added "No offense" but what you said to him would really offend him

Altron, your edited quotes suck.

was that a dig?

Posted by: N.W.A_Kid

heh...in my driver's ed class we were allowed to sleep and cheat on the tests if we chose...that's probably why it was the last year here to take it through high school. although i doubt anybody in my class cheated on the test, there might have been some moron in there who did.

anyway, back to topic...i have to agree, we are always going to be around somebody that we don't like that we just have to tolerate. hey i don't like all of my co-workers or supervisors at work, but what can i do? they're there, they live, and i live too. just ignore em if you can. and it's funny for me to say that considering violence was my choice of retaliation as a kid.

if ignoring him doesn't work, and you can't get him to leave you alone. embarass him in front of the whole driver's ed class (if it's possible with those kind of people) or grab his head and slam it on the desk 50 times until he forgets what he was doing

No, I had to explain what OTS was.

Also, I did give him a chance. He blew it when he said "I noticed you were wearing a computer oriented shirt and had a female."

I tell him to "shut the hell up. you're really f***ing annoying!" all the time. Yet still he tells me that I'm "Full of keys and/or bombs." followed by a really goofy smile while he waits for me to laugh.

I'd bash his head on the desk, but I don't think he's got much upstairs to lose. Plus, he's dirty. By which I mean he doesn't bathe much. I know because he stinks.

If he asks me how to get to the cow level on diablo one more time, I'm going to cave in his knee cap.

Posted by: uh...ok

So GB, you never did answer, how DO I get to the cow level on Diablo?

-uh...ok

Posted by: Xtren

I know a person like the one you talk of... though I don't have an OTS shirt so I haven't gotten that same remark. The best way to avoid them is to ignore them. Sometimes telling the person that he pisses the hell out of you will just make them bug you again for the hell of it. Acting as if you like them probably won't help the problem either. Just try to show no interest in what he's doing nor make any attempt to start a conversation. If you actually do answer him when he says something than make it short and concluding so that no conversation of any sort ensues. He eventually will get bored if you show no interest, and he'll move on to annoying others.

Posted by: Ghetto Blasta

No, you misunderstand. He's not trying to annoy me, he's trying to be my friend. If I ignore him, he'll keep doing it. I've tried. He doesn't just have thick skin, it's ****ing bullet-proof.

And I have no fokking clue how to get to the cow level in Diablo. Never liked the game. This kid refuses to accept this fact though and repeatedly asks me how to get there.

Posted by: uh...ok

I dunno. It still seems that since there's really nothing you can do besides try to tolerate him, you might as well try to make the best of it. Even if it means simply pretending that you're his friend - who knows? Maybe one day you'll discover a redeeming quality about him and having made a friendship with him will be to your benefit.

And if not, too bad. But by the time you realize that, you won't be seeing him ever again.

Or you could simply tell him to blow off. And I don't mean doing it subtly either.

-uh...ok

Posted by: Xtren

It's once he finds out where you live and starts calling you that the situation will get worse. If you only have to see him at drivers ed for the time that you're there you can probably tolerate him. If you really don't care what he thinks and you won't feel bad about it than go ahead and tell him off. He will probably leave you alone if you show him how much you hate him and how much you don't want to be his friend. That might do a number on his self-esteem though, and he might try to get back at you later. Either way it's your choice, hopefully drivers ed will fly by quickly.

Posted by: The_Turks(ff7)

act like you are really intent on studying and ask him to be quiet cuz you failed this class multiple times and you tired of taking it. It probably wont work but what the hell?

Posted by: Shalome

Print out copies of this thread and put them on the doofus's desk before class.

There was a girl like that in my high school class.. really freakin' obnoxious. Some people just don't get it.

Posted by: N.W.A_Kid

Does he have money? If he's rich, become his friend and take it all! Lots of cash is worth dealing with annoying people

Posted by: justinious

  • Show him the OTS shirt tell him "Shut the **** up and go to the website!" (when asked any Diablo question) then garrote him with it.
  • Make a pass at him and hope he's homophobic.
  • Run over the asswipe when you get behind the wheel.
Just don't accidently hit him more than once
  • Jump up, stare at him and yell "Dude, quit calling the Drivers ed. teacher a/an [insert derogatory name]!"
  • Catch him after class and see if he wants to study, then give him a fake address when he asks where you live. Preferably to the most dangerous part of town or the local prison.

I could go on, but I don't want to spend all morning typing

Damn those are pretty harsh... Maybe this kid has never had a friend before. He doesn't seem like he's very popular from the looks of things. A non-violent approach would probably be a better one to take. If you offend this guy really badly it might come back to haunt you. Some people who are a little wierd like this can get really emotionnaly distraught and might try to get back at you in some wicked way. I also don't think Ghetto Blasta would want to make a pass at him... sounds a little risky to me. Afterall this guy is pretty desperate to be friends with him.

He had a friend with him in Barnes and Noble, and several the second time I saw him there.
