Mardi Gras

Happy Mardi Gras weekend, everyone! If you're lucky enough to live in a city that celebrates it, go out and have fun!
St. Louis has a big parade and festival for Mardi Gras this weekend, and the Mardi Gras Krewes here hold costume balls. Should be a good time here.
I think Mardi Gras should be made a national holiday for the following reasons:
1) There are no good holidays to break up the winter blahs. Presidents' Day? Martin Luther King Day? BOOOOORING! Valentines Day? Bah, only good if you're in love (and only good if you think Hallmark-sponsored holidays are worth celebrating).
2) Mardi Gras is a completely selfish holiday. It's all about dressing up, being crazy, self-indulgence, and having a great time. There's no gift-buying, no family obligations, no cooking or doing things for anyone else.
3) It's just good silly FUN! People dressed up in cool costumes running around throwing brightly colored beads, dancing, good music... Americans need more fun in their lives! Screw Iraq and North Korea and Homeland Security... go party!

One of the most memorable times I had at mardi gras was passing out in a trench at like 3 in the morning, waking up around 630 AM, walking into the closest bar that was open at the time, and passing out besides a wax maniquinn.
Let myself go WAY too much that night.

Beads are cool.
Ask AngstMerchant about the "New Year's Eve Mardi Gras" party where he tried to get all the beads in the room.
The pictures are excellent.
