Battle.Net Bot Blues

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

If you are a Battle.net gamer, and unless you've been under a rock for the past week, you already know that Blizzard has decided to shut off bot access to all channels except the two tech support channels and a public one.

This sparked a petition from all bot users demanding that public bot support be brought back to Battle.Net. (Here's the link to that petition, just in case you're a sympathizer)

Recently I got an email from a very irate gamer who thought this site was Blizzard's official tech support site (yeah, we get that a lot, I guess we need a disclaimer), and sent us this very heated email:
Quote:

You really messed up this time . Banning all bots was a mistake. Bots in private channels hold ops and create a friendly room where friends meet. Without a bot to hold ops you killed that room anyone can go there and disturb people there to talk . We als use bots to see if our friends are on line and to facilitate communication.

I am a leader of Clan [witheld by admin]... 50 plus members and we play Blizzard games but we wont buy any more blizzard games because you are trying to KILL all the Clans. I understand spam bots in public channels are a pain in the ass but bots in PRIVATE CHANNELS do a valuable service to its clan members. Bots like Ultimate Bot do no harm in Private Channels.

Im very serious and you need to recognize that Clans and Guilds built your business for you . We of the [witheld by admin] and 1000 s of other Clans and Guilds are deeply hurt by this latest public relations nightmare you caused. I have advised all of my members to not buy Blizzard games and most will not because you have just made the experience of being on Battle.net much less fun and much less social.

BRING BACK THE BOTS

THE LOSS OF MY CLAN MEANS ABOUT 30 LOST SALES OF :LORD OF DESTRUCTION EXPANTION AND ABOUT 50 LOST SALES OF WARCRAFT 3

MULTIPLY THAT TIMES EVERY CLAN AND GUILD ON BATTLE.NET

YOU MESSED UP FIX IT BRING BACK THE BOTS

I don't know if I actually agree with him - I for one am kinda glad about the decision to remove bots, but Blizzard still messed it up by allowing bots to enter the Open Tech Support channel - our home channel

How about you? What do you think?

Very heated indeed....

I agree that bots should not have been removed from the private channel's. Guilds and Clans are a big part of B.Net and are sometimes fun if you find the right one. And they should be allowed to have a way for there memebers to check in. And a bot is the only resonable answer. Although he should not have made a big deal out of it. There are ways to get arround it. Like an IRC channel. Or something like that.

I also think that if blizzard was going to limit the bot's they would have kept them out of the tech support channels. Which would allow us to help more users without the meaningless spamming of bots.

You mean to tell me they banned all bots but in OTS.....what have they got against us? I agree with banning bots, they are a pain in the nether region. I don't agree to let them into OTS. This means that the next time I go there, I will have to contend with all the lonely bots looking for a home to roost. Bah! I also don't agree with banning bots in private channels. What gain is there in that? Ban bots in the public channels, allow bots in private channels.....Seems to me Blizzard didn’t think very hard on this one!

YEEEEHHHH HHHAAAAWWWWWW
Bots suck.
Think about it, bots for the most part to my experience have been used to mass spam and ban people from getting in to rooms where someone would want to go! From what I have seen on B net after the ban the lag is no where near what it used to be. AMEN!
But I do believe that allowing bots in the Open Tech channel was a bad idea. Now I have a hard time getting in there to see if I can help people.
Oh well. Win some lose Windows. ::snicker::
