I played it for an hour and a half last night.
The very first thing I can say about that game is that the graphics are absolutely mindblowing. I had no idea the PS2 could do that.
I really dig all the new moves Jehuty has too. It took me a little while to figure out how to grab enemies and swing them 50 times before throwing them, but it's all good.
I think that was the only thing the VR training didn't tell you how to do.
My current *tiffs* with the game are as folllows: The voice acting of the main character. Sometimes he does ok. But during some lines where he supposedly reacts to bad news, his acting is unbelievable.
Its also kind of difficult to center your aiming when you're trying to shoot the laser missiles to attack large numbers of enemies. You can remedy this with the right analog stick in most cases--but its still pretty hard.
So far it feels like I'm playing MGS2, but with mechs... and more gameplay...

From what I've seen, the game play is top notch. Jehuty is even more stunning to watch than in the first game. The story is also very good IMO. With Dingo finding Jehuty in Callisto then having Jehuty run his life support systems for him creates a bond between Jehuty and him. The graphics are just awesome and the control is superb. I hope to get my hands on this game soon.

I just beat it. 8 hours 52 minutes.
Yeah, short, but it was the best 8 hours and 52 of gaming I've had in a long, long time.
EDIT: Holy shit. After beating it there's this new option for extra missions. There are dozens of them! This is really gonna add more life to it~
