difficulties with startup

This is my first try with a forum but I am lost for ideas.
I had a stable and normal computer until I had a visit from lop.com . After use of removal programs I am left with the following.
I have a start up fault.
after switch on i have a condition where:
1/ the start up button will not start the computer.
2/ the reset button starts the computer.
3/ often , but not always, the start up loops and fails to reach post
4/ when a successful run is achieved the start button can be used to stop the computer - with the appropriate delay of course.
essential components are:- K7S5A board with athlon 1800+, Solarmax KC300 power supply. 512m memory,

I have replaced the CMOS battery and reset the bios.

can anyone throw some light on the problem

Congratulation! You,like so many other people, have been taken by lop.com, and thier poor bussiness practices. I myself was a victim. I didn't evne have a chance to read the EULA before it installed itself. Unfourtanitly, its all quite lega too.

I recommend you use Ad-Aware and check for any remanents of lop.com's spyware.

Thanks darky for your reply. yes i had tried ad-aware and was so impressed that I bought ad-aware+ so that I could have continuous monitoring. but it was around then that I realised the extent of my problems. They seem very basic. Power on from long rest brings imidiate boot up. Power off and then power on and the "on" button is inactive. The reset button will then give boot. Power off and reset is inactive. Until after "on" is pressed.
At power on the volts across on button measure 1.27v . After boot (with reset) the volts across the on button measure 3.1v . The on button will always shut down after several seconds delay.
Sounds to me like re-entrant current limit on psu. Has nobody out there experienced similar problems.
Hogy
