Crashing Laptop

My friend has a Dell Laptop with 1.2 ghz pent 3 and 256 mb ram, win2000,and it has recently been crashing after being on for about 30 mins(completly turning off, not crash and restart). I thought that it might be a simple battery problem, but the battery reads as 100% full in both windows and bios, and it still crashes with the power pack in, so im thinking the problem must be software related. But there she only has aim, realone, and a few other small progs that i tested and didnt crash the laptop. I also thought it might have to do with an open gl screensaver but it crashes in the middle of regular tasks not just when the comp is idle. I also checked the power settings, and they were set right. Im out of ideas and am hoping someone here hwill know a solution .

Go into BIOS, see if it dies in there.
If so, ya go a hardware issue.

Boot into safe mode.
If it doesnt die in there, its a SW issue man.

Did ya reset BIOS settings?
