zipping video files

Could someone please tell me how much I should expect a video file to be compressed using a program such as winzip? I was under the impression that when you zipped a file it would compress into a very small size. I zipped a video file [Movie] 783 mb and the size only reduced down to 753 mb. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks for any help

No, you're not doing anything wrong. A .zip or .rar archive is primarily used to clump a large amount of files into just one file for easy transfer.

They don't really do that much 'compressing'.

Video files are high compression files.

Just like zipping an MP3, you wont get much out of zipping it.
