So stupid.

I have this chronic problem with Warcraft 3 constantly disconnecting. There is no problem with my connection to the server, this I know for a fact. What will happen is about three seconds before the actuall disconnection, the computer will make its 'thinking' sound, the game will stop, and the disconnected window shows up.
I think the reason for this has to do with those damned programs running in the background.
Now, you're saying to yourself, "Geez, you stupid ***, just Ctrl+Alt+Del and close them!" Well its not that simple. When I do that, closing almost any given program will crash the damned computer. What I am looking for is a way to change what programs run at startup.
I did an ad-aware check and I have no spyware, but I don't know what a few of these programs are. For example:
Mdm
Hpgs2wnd
Hpgs2wnf
Stimon
Loadqm
Qttask
Swtrayv4
So I need a way to find out what these programs are, and stop them from running when I start up the computer.

And uh...
Windows 98
192mb ram
Pentium III 666mhz (yah)

run msconfig, then go to startup. uncheck the ones you dont want. it lists the full file extension there, so you can guess what they are for a lot better.
i run 98se, and i dont have any of those programs running. so i think most of them are unnecessary. im guessing that Qttask is quicktime (which has a nasty habit of reselecting itself in msconfig, ive never figured out how). if you see a tkbell in your msconfig, make sure thats not checked.

mdm: Machine Debug Manager. Used for debugging applications and is installed by the Microsoft Script Editor which is included in Microsoft Office. Turn it off.
Hpgs2wnd and Hpgs2wnf: Background tasks installed by the HP Share-to-Web software. HP’s Share-to-Web software enables the end-user to transfer pictures and images directly from their HP scanner, all-in-one multifunctional printer, or digital camera, to HP-recommended secure online photo sharing providers. If you don't use HP's Share-to-Web services (and very, very few people do), turn these off.
stimon: Windows 98/ME’s Still Image Monitor. Installed by Windows 98/ME whenever a USB scanner is present and successfully detected. It starts automatically through the Registry and enables the user (or software) to associate the pressing of the SCAN button on the scanner (if the scanner has one) with a specific Windows program so that, for example, when you press the SCAN button, Adobe Photoshop always gets started and scans the document presently on the scanner. This is a feature commonly called "one-touch scanning". Still Image Monitor is also used by the software that comes with some digital cameras so that as soon as the camera is plugged into the USB port, the appropriate software pops up to enable the end-user to download his photos. Turn it off if you think it's unnecessary.
Swtrayv4: SideWinder game controller.

I don't have office...
And still, I keep getting disconnected... this is so stupid. I can keep a perfectly stable connection to Battle.net, topaz always stays on and I am never fully disconnected from Battle.net, but I am ALWAYS dropped from games. This has only started recently...

well, youre a little low on the ram and cpu, although you do meet the minimum. and im a little concerned that your task manager wont quit programs properly. the thought occurs that you may have some corrupted system files.

Topaz isn't a good gauge of your connection's stability, you can be dropping packets like what, disconnect from your game and topaz will stay connected. Anything changed with your setup recently, new router, firewall, modem, anything since hwen this started happening?

No. Nothing installed, uninstalled, nothing. For the past two days it just decided I wasn't good enough to play a whole game.
