Cd-rom:(

Sony 48x cd-rom.

It detects it fine, the system properties (Control Panel\System\CD-ROMS) has no errors or conflicts.

The light flickers when I place a cd in / out of it, although it wont spin. Not even once.

If I toss a cd in it, the light flickers off and on pritty fast continuesly but wont spint the cd. If I refresh in 'My Computer' the cpu will stop responding untill I eject the cd from the cd-rom.

I've tried to toss the boot disk in the computer and copy all the device drivers, etc. etc. to C: again and still same thing.

I tried taking the case off, Unplugging the cd-rom and plugging it back in, turned it on. Same thing

I tried going to sony.com and... I hate those basterges.. Not 1 single driver on their entire site.. For anything. All they care about is people ordering more useless hardware from them.

MSI 450mhz
Intel 450mhz cpu (i440 bx)
13gb Fujitsu
Sony 48x
VooDoo 3, 2000 (agp)
Sound Blaster 128-bit

Can anyone tell me anything about this? Much appreciated.

*Cries* I wanna play bW

How old is the CD drive? Has "any" CD you put in it refuse to work? Or is it just the BW CD?

Sounds to me like your CD drive is defective... may need to be serviced or replaced...

Yeah, sounds dead to me, get a new one Ska

Couldn't tell you exactly how long i've had it. Although I know it's well over 6 months. And nope, it's every cd.

Seems you have tried everything that needs to be done ... it's probably defective, and it'll save you a lot more grief and time to just buy a new one...

Yea, what I ended up doing is just getting a new one. Thx for the help though

LoL, a 48x cd-rom I baught from Trevor. I take it back and he said he'd look at it. (I don't know much about cd-roms or anything like that anyways. I just took my whole case in.)

He said it was a defective cd-rom. And he put in a brand new 52x Sony, and gave me an extra 64mb's PC133, SDRAM for my troubles!

Hehe, love that store
