At first he was playing D2 just fine , well sorta , he was running about 20 FPS and had lots of skip but he could get around at least and do things , but he recently got a GF4 32MB card and put it in , now his fps starts at 40 in game but then jump to like 5 , 20 , 10 , 15 , all around and his skip is wayy up in 90's he cant do anything , not even move. he changed to d3d or w/e with his card , i sugested changing to d2d but still the same , ive had him DL and install latest drivers but no effect... and im not sure what to tell him to do to fix it..... how can i help him??
His Sys Specs:
CPU: Celeron 700Mhz
VID: GeForce 4 32MB
MEM: 319MB
OS: Win ME
Sound: Built In Sound ( dunno what else to call it lol )

Did you check the Blizzard solution index?

ya , couldnt find anything to help him but to update drivers.....
Posted by: Wacheif
someone plz help?

could be something to do with memory or app-memory share conflicts/inconsistencies..
Posted by: Wacheif
i dont see how that could be when he runs all other games perfect....

Not to meantion he's running a souped up budget GF2
(Wacheif the GF4 MX series actually use the same technology the GF2 did, which is like 3 generations old now.) Also they never did have a good track record for keeping sweet framerates in Diablo 2, back when I used to care about the game, voodoo cards were the only ones that could achieve impressive framerates. Not really sure what he can do about it, which resolution is he running in? I know GF cards always run like shit in low resolutions (like both the ones D2 offers) what video mode is he using? Try DirectDraw 2D instead of D3D or whatever, dunno what else to tell ya
edit: fixed the stupidest typo I've ever made

Updated drivers.
Reinstall DirectX: The latest version can be found here.
Posted by: Wacheif
Tried that already , nothin helpd.....
Posted by: Gunslinger
Try running other games that utilize Direct Draw and/or Direct3D and see if the problem translates.
Posted by: Wacheif
i did that too , ive tried all other games on my pc and they all still work...
Posted by: Gunslinger
Then that suggests a Diablo 2 specific problem. Being that as it may, the obvious thing to do is reinstall Diablo 2.
Posted by: Wacheif
tried that already too lol , guess i shoulda said all this when i made my first post lol
Posted by: Gunslinger
Perhaps.
I can't really think of anything else. I would almost say to check the fresh rate for the monitor, but that probably wouldn't yield a 'can't find video mode' error.

i just did a thing with directx , a display test stuff , i ran tet of driect draw and everything went smoothley but when i ran a test of direct 3D i got an error ,
Direct3D 7 test results: Failure at step 8 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT = 0x8007000e (Out of memory)
but thats only for 7 test , the other 2 tests worked very fine , also direct x says firect 3D Acceleration is enabled , but direct Draw acceleration is not avalaible.... =\

Not available?
I'm sorry, but that reeks of DirectX and/or driver problems.
If it's not that, then I would swap out your video card for another and see if the problem persists. If the problem does not persist, I suppose it is possible that the video card has become damaged. Things like small power surges can cause that. Also, problems with the fan that can cause the card to overheat can also cause problems. Granted, this is a very specific problem to be associated with that kind of damage, but, it's not altogether impossible.
Posted by: Wacheif
but if the card was dammaged how come i can still play other games?
Posted by: Gunslinger
Therein lies the problem.
What other games are you trying, exactly? The reason I ask is that if the card is failing the Direct 3D diagnostics, then other games that attempt to utilize the Direct3D features of the card should experience problems similar to what Diablo 2 is experiencing.
Posted by: Wacheif
lets see ive tried , Warcraft 3 , half-life , Starcraft , Return To Castle Wolfensteind , Soldier Of Fourtune... Oni... Duke Nukem Mahattan Project Demo , i think thats all ive played since D2 screwed up...
Posted by: Gunslinger
I don't understand.
The card fails the Direct X diagnostics despite fresh driver installations, yet it can still run a game that utilizes Direct 3D. It can run a game that utilizes Direct3D, yet the Diablo 2 video test cannot identify any useable video modes.
I'm stumped.

ya =\ WTF IS GOING ON!!! lol

omg i feel so damn dumb... i thought i had latest directx , 9.0 but thir was a 9.0a , and now everything works... omg omg omg i feel sooooo dumb...
