Um... Is this... Normal...?

My CD-ROM drive is a HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8400B. No, I don't know what brand that is, as the company seems content to name themself in all acronyms .
The thing is, whenever I play a CD, game, or in any way access the CD drive, there is a VERY loud vibrating and my entire desk shakes. If you've ever put a cd in your cd-drive when one was already in there, you'll recognise this sound instantly. It starts as a deep, low vibrating that rumbles everything, and works up to a high pitched vibration, almost like screeching.
This just doesn't seem normal to me, and it's damn distracting when I'm trying to type and the keyboard is moving from the vibration.

I've seen that before. Sounds like the motor is out of alignment, which if under warranty should be covered. Otherwise it's easier just to pick up a new cd-rom.
I wouldn't continue using it though as it may permanently damage a disc.

The thing is though, it always did that somewhat. Recently however, it has become much stronger and louder, like it's getting worse.
Covered under warranty(sp) tthough. Thanks.

heh all LG drives have that vibrating action...
Its just a custom and I happen to find that cool
just move your tower a cm further from your desk and it
won't shake EVERYTHING!

That definatly sounds like your classic case of the motor being out of alignment. You don't really need to get it fixed if it has no problems loading. But if it scratches the holly hell out of your disc, its time to align!
