Side Buttons on Mouse not working

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have an Intellimouse Optical and the left and right side buttons dont work. I tried using it on a webpage to go back and forth and nothing works. They also didnt work in UT2k3 cuz have a weapon bound to each.

I have Intellimouse Drivers 4.1 installed and it is a running task in the task manager. I have it plugged into the USB port by itself. I did however hook my USB Zip drive too it and I think it worked fine then, but doesnt now. Any clue what's up? I'm on XP Professional

Tried rebooting? Make sure the intellimouse software still thinks you have an intellimouse optical. Try switching it to a standard mouse and back (in the software).

Never had that problem myself.

What the cheese!

I rebooted a coupla times and no dice.

Next I uninstalled the software and reinstalled it and it didnt work.

Then I tried what you said change to a different mouse and switch back. Argh. I think i'll find the USB to PS2 plug and do that.

With my Intellimouse Explorer on my laptop, if I unplug it while the laptop is on, I have to plug it back to the same slot in order for the buttons to work.

Sometimes though, I still have to run "Microsoft Mouse" again in order for my 4th and 5th button's functions to become reactivated.

Argh, sometimes I hate these machines. Ok, I used windowsupdate to get the 2 security updates that were released and rebooted as normal. Then I just started surfing, and I just happened to left click and it works again. Funny how these things work themselves out in the end.
