Sound Fades in and out on MP3 playback

I have an Audigy Gamer (First Generation) and I have the lastest drivers installed with XP Pro. When I play some mp3s, the sound fades in and out. It only happens at the beginning of the song. It also does it when I change the volume nob. I made sure all the connections are good and secure. I tried Winamp 2.81, 2.9, 2.91 and QuinPlayer. It's rather annoying, I was wondering if you had any suggestions?

I did uninstall the drivers and reinstall them but I got the same result. I doesnt mess up when I'm playing UT2k3, just on mp3 playback.

So does this problem occur only when playing mp3s in Winamp? There's a feature that fades between songs that must have been activated somehow. I don't know where the option is, but maybe someone else does

Here's the deal, when I start up an mp3 in Winamp, the song begins and the volume will start to fade out, like going really quiet. Then when I go to turn the volume controller to make it loud, it gets louder, then volume will fade back in, get even more louder. I'm thinking mayhaps a dirty plug with the volume controller.
