I'd say Googlegear is an ok retailer as long as you don't have to return anything.

if youre going to buy most of your components at one place, its a good site. their prices are normally quite low, and they have a decent selection. they also arent complete idiots.

uh, you better look again. that motherboard doesnt support 333 ddr.
what are you using this computer for? surfing, games, business.....
and get the 9700pro

Posted by: GeForce_4_

I think he still is the boss of what he will buy , don't you agree redwench?

Posted by: redwench

he asked for opinions. he got them. what he does with them is his business.

Posted by: liquidrt

yes thnx for all the replies, on the DDR which one should i get, i heard since it was duall channel ddr that 2, 256's would be good, if youw ant to suggest a different kind go ahead. also the motherboard i looked at had
Gigabyte GA-8iNXP
the other one has Gigabyte GA-SiNXP

what is the difference? they are about 20$ price difference, also any other sites that i could get this stuff for cheaper?

Gigabyte has many, many, boards. Intel's newest chipset is the 875p. The new Pentium 4s will be running on a 800MHz FSB, so you might want to keep that in mind if you plan to upgrade in the future. Those boards will require DDR400 RAM.

Yeah, it's getting somewhat confusing.

which board should i get along with ram

Posted by: redwench

youre going to have to pick a chipset, which will dictate the speed and kind of ram you can use. you can keep that chipset and go with the lower ram speed that it supports, or go with a different chipset that supports higher ram speeds. there are only a few chipsets that currently support p4 and ddr400 on the market, and they are not intel chipsets. if you dont feel able to do the research yourself, a thread similar to this was posted a few weeks ago. just search for ddr400, that should pull it up.

DDR is backwards compatible. I'm using PC3200 (DDR400) in a KT333 (DDR333) board.

Except for Intel's latest, the Canterwood (875p).

If you are running a 533MHz FSB P4, then anything over DDR266 would *theoretically* be overkill. I'm not sure how that holds in real performance, though.

yes, the chipset is out, but i havent seen any boards with it yet. unless i missed something. when i was researching that sis chipset for that other thread, i ran across one page that was a professional review of motherboards or chipsets, dont recall.
at any rate, even with an fsb of 533, the 400 did outperform the 333. not by a whole bunch, but it did. the main reason to get it would be to save having to buy new ram in 2 years, when this comp becomes too old to be useful.

as far as the system.. I like AMD over Intel.. but that's me.. and I prefer Nvidia over ATI.. still my personal pref.. but I did buy my GeForce4 Ti4200 from Googlegear.com and can tell you they are great .. good shipping deals..

i think you should go for a scsi drive with a mp motherboard and dump the rest
afterall thats what matters
