Saving an injured Hard Drive

No I didnt stomp it or smack it, just... kinda abused
Ok, When I had my old motherboard I wasnt getting any video so I had everything unplugged and I was messing with things to see if it would come back. Unfortunately I did not unplug the HD. So now I have a Western Digital 30GB drive with massive bad sectors because of not shutting down properly.
I was wondering if there I could still salvage this drive. I dont care if I dont get the whole 30GB back. The only thing on it is an install of XP but nothing else is on it. Could I just slave it on a computer, format it, then do a disk scan to see if it can fix errors?

Low-level formatting usually finds and marks bad sectors automatically, so it should work.

You're avatar is correct. How do I do a low level format?

For a WD drive, I guess you can use DLG Diagnostic
