Windows XP - For Gamers?

If you are one of the many wondering if upgrading to Windows XP will enhance the performance of your gameplay, Gamespot has written an article covering performance and compatibility. Here's a snip:

Aside from compatibility, the biggest concern surrounding XP is performance. The Windows NT/2000 core was built for stability and general-purpose computing speed and generally delivers less performance in 3D-accelerated games. We discovered two different sides to the performance equation in XP: general system efficiency vs. 3D gaming frame rates. When it comes to normal processes of loading, switching, and multitasking among programs and games, even this prerelease version of XP shows the benefits of the new engine. Most common programs and menus loaded as or more quickly than they did under our previous installation of Windows ME. Quake III, Unreal Tournament, Fallout Tactics, Alice, Deus Ex, and just about any contemporary game title we could throw at XP seemed to load up faster than it did under Windows ME.
