video card problem :(

Hey,

I just bought a Radeon 7500 PCI for my computer (No, I dont have an AGP slot, and yes, I know PCI sucks, and no, I don't have enough money to buy a new mobo and all that). Then I tell my online friend about it, and he says that the card might not work with my computer because my comp might not support multiple monitors.

So then I email eMachines tech support (Yes i know, eMachines suck). I just got the reply, here's what he said:

"When purchasing the card I recommend checking with the manufacturer to make sure the card does not support multiple monitor/video and is capable of disabling the onboard video. The motherboard is designed to disable the onboard video when a new video card is installed. Some newer video cards that have multiple monitor support will have issues running some programs or loading Windows.

I advise against installing a Radeon 7500 PCI video card."

So now I dont know what to do. I havent yet opened the 7500, so I could still take it back, but what video card should I get now? I already bought a GF4 MX420, then I took it back after coming to my sences. I can't think of any other cards to get

I am massively frustrated and in need of a good suggestion. Just to let you know, I'll have $120 if I take the Radeon card back.

..!

$120 for a 7500?? You got seriously ripped off, my friend.

indeed.

ok, ill say this anyway. for $120, you can buy a seriously good motherboard. or a decent motherboard and a decent video card. for that matter, $300 can buy a reasonable cpu, mobo, ram and video.

I guess that came out wrong. I'll have $120 TOTAL if I take the 7500 back, which only cost half that much (and even a mail in rebate).

heh, well, this is what you didnt want to hear. just find a motherboard that will support your ram and cpu. i dont know of any that came out in the last 5 years from a major manufacturer that dont support agp. and you should be able to find one well under $100, probably close to 50. what is your cpu anyway?

1.20 GHz Celeron Processor!!!
128MB SDRAM!!!
3d Graphics Intel Direct AGP 810e integrated graphics!!!
It sounds so exciting!!!!!
What I dont get is why it says Direct AGP when it has no AGP slot.

because the integrated graphics are agp type.

isnt the integrated working? whats the problem with it?

you would have no problem finding a motherboard for that cpu and ram. you would definitely need to buy a seperate video card if you went that route. but try to get that integrated crap working properly, so you can save up for a better motherboard and good videocard.

Heh. Let me put it this way: When running Medal of Honor: Allied Assault on the lowest settings on 800x600 resolution, it was still very choppy. And when trying to load up a map for the multiplayer mode, it takes 3+ minutes to load the map.

Its the same for all the other games I have, like JK2 and WC3. Too slow to play. I think the 810e chip combined with the 128sdram is just worthless and there is nothing I can do to make it any better.

no, anything short of a ti4600 or an ati 9000 series is going to do the same thing. youre seriously lacking in ram, wc3 requires 256. its not the video card at this point.

time for you to sit down and have a think about what youre going to do long term about your computer. its not up to what you use it for, on more than one level. do you want to upgrade it, or hang on and replace the whole central bit?

Posted by: DarthKirby

So, your saying adding more RAM would speed it up significantly?

If I could, I'd want to replace the whole central bit - motherboard (with agp slot, of corse :P), cpu (maybe an Athlon), ram and video card. But right now I just don't have the money. Actually I'd want to build my own computer if I had the money, but that would cost even more.

...and BTW:

Memory: Warcraft III requires 128 MB of RAM.
