i just bought the game and on the back in little letters they said something like online service through september 30 2004, after that EA may choose to terminate online service

does that mean you can't play bf1942 online anymore?

No, that means that after that date, they can shut down their dedicated servers if they wish to. You still will be able to play on player hosted games. It says the same thing on all their online games, especially MMOs, only with MMOs they say the game service could be terminated at any time with 90 days notice. I would think thats to cover their butts if the game becomes unprofitable. Thats what happened with Motor City Online.

oh ok, thanks for the relief

so personal servers are kinda like counter strike servers right? basically EA won't pay for servers anymore, who ever want to host a server has to pay for themselves

I dont think EA has that many of their own dedicated servers up anyways. Theres plenty of player dedicated servers though, at least from what Ive seen when I have played.

BF1942 is very very popular though. IMO the best FPS out right now and the only thing that would take interest away from the game is a sequel.

a sequal as in something like Battlefield 1943 or the expansion packs?

1943...lol.

Theres rumor that EA has been working on a more modern day one as a sequel or next in the series called "Battlefield: 2003". An expansion is an expansion, not a sequel.
