Are my headphones goners?

I can't tell left from right or front from back in CS with my headphones anymore since last night for some reason... I finally got tired of it this afternoon and loaded my Audio speaker setup thing, hit the "test" button (the one that makes a voice say "Left channel" on your left speaker and "Right channel" on your right)... lo and behold, both the right and left sides of my headphones broadcasted BOTH "left channel" and "right channel".
I haven't messed with any audio settings lately, and it's not my sound card or sound setting's fault because my regular speakers passed the test when they're plugged in rather than my headphones.
So are my headphones broken?

maybe ^^
check the settings on the headphones themselves. make sure they (and internal comp settings for headphones) are set for stereo and not mono.

Check to make sure you didn't plug them in to the wrong soundcard plug.

I actually have an audio extension cable connected to the sound card so I can switch between my speakers and headphones easily... it's definitely not plugged in wrong. So obviously the audio settings do not change when I switch between my speakers and my headphones... I will try the headphone setting and tweaking around though.
Thanks for the suggestions though.
