Ultima IX Videos not working
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Yeah, so I started playing this game again. I never did finish it, or even get 1/2 way through, so I started over. I noticed that the videos are no longer playing. The game itself works fine, sound, graphics, everything, but when it comes time for the cut scene videos, the game totally skips them. I recently upgraded to XP. Should I uninstall the game and reinstall it, and see what happens? Any other ideas?
edit: Also, I recently put the Radeon 9000 geforce 4 128mb video card in too.

If you didn't do this yet after upgrading to XP then that's a good thing to try.
You can also try running the game in compatibility mode and see if it helps any.

I tried reinstalling it, patching it again, and also setting the compatibility settings, and the movies still don't work. Everytime I try to do compatibility settings for Windows 98/ME I get an error that some kind of compatilibility text file doesn't work. I've tried running the compat. mode for two other games, and both games wouldn't even load, I'd get the same error. However, Ultima IX does run w/o compat. issues, so I guess I can just play w/o the movies. Been having nothing but problems since I installed XP.

So which is it? A Radeon 9000 or a Geforce 4?
Also, if it's just the videos that aren't working, you might need a new codec. I'm not sure which codecs the game uses. Check the game disc and see if there is a codec installer in there. If not, I'd say there is probably a good chance that the game uses Intel's Indeo (lots of games like to use that one). You can go to Intel's website and get an update for Indeo. That might work.

sorry...had something else on my mind at the time..it's the Radeon 9000, and tomorrow morning I'll give that a try.

solved my problem. just for the hell of it I decided to put my ultima cd in my dvd rom instead of the burner... i use the burner because it's quicker for installation and the dvd has a tendency to knock the cd out of the tray and jam it, causing my games to hang. well...i put it in the dvd and the videos play, it just turns out that my burner can't play the videos.
