Firebird Problem

Ok, I have this annoying issue with Firebird. Recently I've been using a nightly build of Firebird and all went well. Then 0.6 came out and I decided to get that. So, in order to start fresh, I decided to completely delete my previous profile. I did that fine, I used the run command and put in the path with -p to get the profile manager. The profile I was using was deleted, and I created a new one. Now, when I run Firebird, it starts to load, but then it says it is not responding and when I try to close it, it crashes, and asks to send an error report. No matter how many times I try it, the same end result. I even tried a previous nightly and it doesnt work. I installed Mozilla 1.3 and it works fine, but it's got too much junk in it. Any suggestions on how to get Firebird working?

Have you been deleting your old build before trying to use the new one?

Normally what I do is I will read the message boards to see which nightly is good. Then I download the zip file into a directory I made called Firebird. In that directory I have another folder for each build. So basically I just extract the newest version into a different folder, but I dont delete anything. When I did that, I had no problems. I started having the issues when I deleted my profile.

BTW, i'm on XP Pro if that matters.

I use that as well. Hmmm.

0.6 has a feature that'll let you set where the profile is stored, I set mine to be under my browser folder. Maybe try the same thing.

I created a folder in the .6 Directory called Profile and pointed it there, same result :/

That's really odd, especially considering phoenix doesn't use the registry. At this point I'd say wipe everything phoenix related, and uninstall.

Though, I have one more suggestion: Do you copy your plugins each time? Cause I tend to do that, but I noticed that the null plugin was different for this build, perhaps you copied that one over and it's causing problems?

naw, I deleted all the directories, and it's a fresh extraction from the zip, each time it crashed, i deleted the folder it extracted, but kept the zip file. each time I ran firebird, it was completely new :/

I miss firebird, Mozilla is too... big. i'm gonna do a reformat before I go back to school in August, so it should fix it I guess. Thanks for your help

I got it working! I scoured the support forum again, looking for the answer, and it's actually a bug that is in 0.6. I found the solution. All I had to do was add a line of code to the user.js file. Here it is:

user_pref("browser.bookmarks.added_static_root", true);

If anyone has a crash when they start 0.6 on a fresh copy, just edit the user.js file and copy and paste that to the end, and it works fine

Man, you never know how much you miss something til you lose it. Kisses the Firebird Browser
