Video Card...

Can anyone tell me if a SiS 300/305/630/540/730 (32.0 Mb): 1024 x 768 - True Color (32 bit) is a good video card, and why not/why is it a good one?
I dont even know if it is, but it must be, it said so

Its not, SIS makes low performance, low quality extreme budget video chips at middle of the road prices. Get a GeForce 4 MX 440 for $40 instead of $30 for a SiS. The extra 10 will get you good, reliable, up-to-date drivers, a stable card that is capable of more performance, and technical support from a well known company that is established soley on its video chip prowess.

a gf4mx can barely run many of the current games. if youre in the market for a new video card, youre going to have to spring for one that is at least the equivalent of a gf4, and even thats not going to be useful for more than a few months.

I got the gforce FX5600 256 mb very nice card Get that!

Um...he never asked for buying suggestions.

Posted by: arturo238

OK, then here you go. All of the SiS cards are not very good because they are low performance budget chips. Sorry to tell you that, and I dont mean it to be deamining and downgrading but the facts are that harware is not good.

THX EVERY1, THX FOR UR SUGGESTIONS. 1 THING, I DIDNT BUY THAT SiS IT CAME WIT THE PC, AND IM GONNA UPGRADE IT, BY BUYING A NEW, AND BETTER ONE.

THX, THIS IS A GREAT SITE!

the geforce 5600 256mb is the worst performance of all 5600 chipsets due to slower ram speed and decreased memeory bus addressing, (you got suckered into thinking more ram meant better) as far as 5600s go, the msi vtdr 128 has the best overall performance with easily upgradable bioses for longer term enjoyment. gainward 5600 is the best performing, though pricey.

sis is crappy, geforce 4 mx400 is really a gf2 chip with some enhanced instructions and 40$ is a good price for it. it will let you play alot of games.

personally im recommending for your budget an msi vtd64 for about 80$

for prices check www.pricewatch.com

dpmt get a 5600, it is about the worst alternative in the current near top of the line cards. If you want something in that performance rabge, grab on of the ATI 9500 Pro or 9600 Pro cards. They look better, and perform better. If you want something slightly less go for a GeForce 4 Ti4200 or Ti800se. But do not spend money on a SiS, or gfx5200.

i gotta disagree with you, the 5600 outperforms the 9500 and 9600 pro consistantly on all new games and across multiple manufacturers under the same settings, with the exception of the bfg asylum 5600 256 meg card which is the most tested (because most would assume it has the best performance due to the most ram), but it is by far the crappiest of all 5600 cards. if you are citing the 5600 card that sucks, tell us which one it is.

Should I return
the
256
and get the
vtd128?

if it is the bfg aylum 256 you got, definately. and it should also be cheaper.

read this article if this is the card you have:
http://www.tomshardware.com/graphic..._5600_256mb_agp

i dont know of many other 256 5600 cards other than the asylum and the pny. if you got the pny, its not the best, but it doesnt suck its also kinda new so there arent alot of trustable reviews for it yet. one thing msi has going for it, is that it has a software to upgrade the bios as well as a backup bios. a large gaming bundle compared to most, (in this day and age so many steal from kazaa that might not matter to you.)might not matter to you.)

avoid msi like the plague

Posted by: arturo238

Yeah, return the 256. Its not actually any better then a 128 because it uses slower memory. It also does not need as much as the 5900 or Radeon 9800 because it cannot fill as many pixels in such a short amount of time. If I can get you to cary anything away from this converstation, I want you to see that the GeForce FX line aside from the 5900 is inferior to the late Radeon series cards.

I got the MSI GeForce FX5600 VTD256 DDR 256 or something like that. It does not mention Asylum anywhere.

ive purchased several msi cards and ive always been impressed, and ive compaired them to other cards personally. ive heard a few people say they are the worst, but ive never found any statistics backing it up. post some links explaining msi's deficiancies. im curious cause they are like the best deals ive ever seen price vs performance wise.

if its an msi card you have i personal would keep it (and give me a link, maybe ill buy it). but i dont know that particular card. so until i find some reviewes of it, ill have to pass on an official opinion.

I got it for 230$ CANADIAN, which is around 160 give or take few dollars. Its not a bad price here in Canada . So far it is been amazing for playing WCIII, now I will be putting the card up against Call of Duty Demo.
