Where do you learn this stuff?

For a while now I've been trying to figure out how to learn a few computer things, promarlly html and then java. Know I'm wondering how and were I can learn this shit, preferebly for relitvly cheap.

Most of us around here (I'm assuming) learned that stuff through experience. For HTML, just go to your local bookstore and pick up a reference book, such as HTML For Dummies (which will actually teach you a little bit). Once you have that, you just go to learning by plugging away at it. Nothing profound about it.

lol I see, thanx and bye the way totally off the subject you know theirs a book called 'The Gunslinger' by Stephen King? Its very good.

...followed by The Drawing of the Three, The Wastelands, Wizard and Glass, and more on the way.

HTML/Java For Dummies

You can also look at the source code of websites for HTML

HTML/Java for dummies is a really good book. When I was in a programming class in HS, my friend bought that book and it was better than the supplied tutorial stuff the teacher gave us, way way better.

The For Dummies books are how I learned HTML, years and years ago.

What about the Dark Tower or Black Tower or something?

Posted by: Arioch

That's the official series. Or, rather, the series is called "The Dark Tower."

When is the next one coming out?

That's the most-asked question about Stephen King ... right next to "Where do you get your ideas" ...

Anyway, HTML for Dummies is a decent introductory book ... I myself have kept mine from 6 years ago, along with Perl for Dummies and Flash 4 for Dummies...

I have always been a fan of those "teach yourself [x] in [y] [z]!"

Where x is a thing to be learned, y is a numerical number, and z is a length of time measurement (ie, days).

"Teaching yourself" is an accepted contradiction, really .. in order to teach yourself, you have to know what you're teaching (already a contradiction there), and in order to know what you're teaching, you have to learn it from somewhere ... so altho books and website links do not actively promote instruction, they are passively teaching you things, which you can then use to teach "yourself"
