power management problem

I have a Dell Inspiron 8200. My monitor is set to power-off after one hour, but it does not seem to be working properly. I set my screen saver to 1 min delay and the power settings to 2 min delay for the monitor to verify what was happening. The screen saver kicks in like it should, but when the 2 min mark hits, the screen goes blank for a second and then it flashes and I see my desktop. The screen saver never kicks on again unless i move the mouse and wait for the specified delay time. I installed the latest versions of DirectX and the video drivers, but I still have the problem. Any ideas?

thanks,

Kevin

try the same power settings without using a screen saver. if that works and you still want to use a screen saver, try a different one to see if the original screen saver being used was the reason for the problem.

It is definitely the screen saver. Anything with OpenGL does not work which is just about every screen saver available. If I knew what was responsible for controlling the OpenGL settings, maybe I could fix the problem or downgrade to my previous version which worked without problems.

I uninstalled a bunch of Windows Updates I did recently and the problem went away. I don't know exactly which update caused the problem but all is good again.

thanks,
Kevin
