Help with DVD on Laptop

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I'm trying to help out a friend long distance. She has a laptop with a DVD player, it's a Dell 8100 (Specs Here i'm guessing that's close to what it is)

She says when she puts a DVD in the drive, a message box comes up saying, Insert Disc into Drive D. I'm assuming that's the DVD Drive. I asked her if she had a DVD encoder and she said no, so gave her one so she could install, but she gets the same message. Any ideas what's up?

can she read other types of cd's such as data or music? if she can, maybe it's not a dvd drive. i looked at several sites that listed specs on dell 8100 laptops, and not all of them came with a dvd drive.

Thanks for the reply, I just emailed her and I asked her if she could play a music CD in it. I also told her to go into the Device Manager and see what kind of Optical Drive she has whether it be DVD or CD. I'll let you know when she replies. Thanks again.
