I have used Disk Degragmenter and Disk Cleanup. I have no temp. files anymore, but XP still runs so slowly.
Are there any tips for making XP run faster?
Thanks, in advance.

How much RAM do you have? How fast is your processor? Do you have a lot of programs running on startup?

I have a 2.0 GH processor and 512 MB of RD-RAM.
I do not have a lot of Start Up Services. I use the bare minimum for that. My Start Up time is great, about one full minute. It's my computer time that gets me. Thank you.

That is not great by today's standards. my computer (asus a7v8x, athlon xp2200+, and 1gb of pc2700 ddr), running windows xp boots anywhere from 15 to 20 seconds.
what specific things in xp seem slow to you on your computer?

Would you like me to list my Start Up Services? I don't know a lot about computers.
I don't understand: asus a7v8x, ahtlon xp2200+...
Thanks

i'll ask again. what specific program or application are you using on you computer that makes you think your computer is slow?
internet..........
games...........
playing music..........
loading software........
watching dvd's..........
viewing local things through explorer..........
that's all i am asking. which one of the above, or are all of the above slow?

I have changed a eliminated a few Start Up Services and the computer runs better.
The Internet seemed very slow. It seems to be faster now. I have AOL DSL. Maybe there was just a problem with the service.
How is it possible to get XP to start up in 15 to 20 seconds? I cannot imagine that. That is great! Thanks.

a long boot time usually is caused from Bios settings. the brand of motherboard you have and the Bios it uses is the key to how fast your computer is capable of booting. if you are not troubled by your one minute boot time, then i would suggest to leave you bios settings alone.
i think you narrowed it down to what you are saying is slow. your internet service provider usually has way more to do with how fast or how slow the internet may seem, more so than windows xp would. if you continue to recieve poor service from aol, try switching to a different dsl service. you may be very suprised to see how different the internet can be outside of Aol.

Thank you very much for all your help and advice. I appreciate your time.
I will take your advice on both considering another DSL provider and on remaining content with my one-minute boot time. I don't think I should mess with the BIOS since I am not a computer whiz.
Thanks, again, for your helping and for the great advice.
