well all i only have 3 months of this left. i have decided to join the us airforce at the end of the summer. the only reason im waiting till then is cause i can hang with all my friends cause schools out and stuff. but when everyone goes back and to work and all that im goin to the forces. i need to get my life in motion and stop sitting here being lazy hehe.

Posted by: Pepsi-Man[OTS]

i havent decided if im going to reserves or full time yet so i dont know when ill be back or if i will at all.

Posted by: Canis Lupus

Wow man, you're on a posting spree!

US Airforce ... hmmm ... that means you have to cut your hair once again, hehee

Posted by: laborat

Pepsi, see if you can get them to do something about that wild blue yonder song thingy. I can think of a lot of tunes that would be better for recruitment. Just what exactly is a YONDER anyways? I'm stumped.

labby

Posted by: Chako

Serving ones country is a most honorable deed.

Posted by: Lord_Buttplug

Make sure you get all the programs for college tution that they have.

Posted by: Foogar

Only thing I can say is you'll be missed man! I do know they have computers in there tho so when you get some free time (after boot of course) drop us a line and let us know how you're doing!

Posted by: DemonBob

Hehe y, Airforce? US Marine Corps all the way!!

Simpre Fi

Posted by: Hell's Wrath

Pepsi, we will miss your presence on the internet. Please do what Foogar asked and drop us a line as soon as possible after you join up. Dont be a stranger while you are still able to be online. And , lastly, take care of yourself out there in bootcamp.

*hugs* HW

Posted by: Pepsi-Man[OTS]

well i am mainly doing it to get the free college and you can do computers in the airforce so ill be in to computers hehe ill probably be able to jump in to here everyonce in a while and visit and say hi. and since housing food and all that are free i'll be doing nothing but making money so hehe ill be rich

Posted by: Lord_Buttplug

Hehe, I wouldn't say rich.

Posted by: laborat

Dear Pepsi Man,

I am afraid you might be laboring under some misconceptions
about housing and food and getting rich in the service. any Service. The housing sucks and the food is even worse. The only ones I know of that are rich are the Top Brass in the Pentagon who supplement their income with Bribes from the Defense Industries.

The Sad facts are that many servicemen live in sub-standard housing, those with familys need food stamps to survive, and according to one government study, were eligible under any other circumstance for welfare. Keep your civilian insurance and if you get sick pretend you are anything but a serviceman, and never, never, depend on a VA hospital for medical care.

other than that, I will certainly sleep better knowing Pepsi Man is manning a missle silo somewhere in Podunk Alaska. I think.

Posted by: redwench

pepsi, labby is quite correct. housing in the services would be condemned in many cases if it wasnt on a base. and food stamps feed many service families, even if the wife works.

i know many people think im strange, but to me you should only enter the armed services if you have a passion for it. you shouldnt do it for money, whether in cash or credit hours.

are you ready to die to protect my rights pepsi?

Posted by: JANNA

Pepsi its not THAT bad. it just depends on where u get stationed. i was fortunate enough to be in hawaii for my tour of duty with the Army. the food was decent, at least the mess facilities we had on post were very well run and the Air Force facilities were even better. and from when i was in the Army we worked closely with the Air Force security police and pepsi was the "official" drink of the us air force :/ i think u will have a good time long as u go in expecting an adventure and dont get wrpaped up in believeing ur going to be rich right away. time in the service will serve u better in the future than what u will get immediately. get all the tech training and computer training u can get and have fun!! Air Force boot camp isnt that bad and after the first couple of weeks is closer to going to a college than anythng else once u start training for ur job.

Posted by: redwench

lies

Posted by: Kdr Kane

I should stay out of this one. But, if you are going to join for the reason of further college, then don't join the regular military. Join the ROTC at your college and the military will pay for it all. You'll be obligated for about the same amount of time. Besides, you get a degree, you become an officer. An officer has it much better than the so-called "men". And when you get out, you got it on your resume.

Posted by: TotalRecall

We'll miss you Pepsi. Have a good time, learn some things, and try to drop us a line.

Posted by: Chako

Listen to Kdr Kane. Oh an by the way, do not join the forces to become rich...it doesn't exist unless your top brass. Join the forces for the life it can offer you.

Posted by: Arta

I am reminded of a quote:

"Join the army! Visit exotic lands, meet interesting people, and shoot them!"

Just remember that the armed forces are there primarily to kill people. If you can resign yourself to that, then have a great time! I wish you the best of luck.

Posted by: AK47

Dont wory. I dont think they let the zoomies in the Chairforce do any killing. Leave the tough shit to the marines- SEMPER FUDGE!

Posted by: Pepsi-Man[OTS]

i wanted to join the marines to my passion would be becoming a sniper. but since the marines have it the hardest and end up becoming insane i think ill just stick to the airforce.

i still dont know what i wanna do yet though see if i went to the reserves id just to go to boot to get in shape cause i always did like that kinda thing and to make a little money. and i ment rich not litterally hehe rich to me is 100$ lol i not working right now so anything is rich for me but if i go full time for like my career then i would go for the wings baby i would go to be a pilot i love to fly hehe.

as far as the living goes eh i can sleep on the floor at a party and be fine hehe. and i can eat anything.

Posted by: Lord_Buttplug

Gotta be an officer to fly and they do make some bucks once you hit Captain. So, make sure you save up for college during the tour and don't blow it all on strip bars.

Posted by: Null Actor

Now, I probably shouldn't get in to this topic cause of my heated views about the military...

but are you sure you want to die for a corrupt government who is only trying to expand its power across the globe?

Posted by: Spider

hahaha!!

Posted by: Pepsi-Man[OTS]

i didnt think i was gonna die lol nova =) yes i know i need to be an offider to fly thats why im gonna do college hehe

Posted by: MK

Nova, are you sure you wanna live in a country that says "eh"?

Posted by: Lord_Buttplug

Well time to wade into this one. Kinda in and out of order of what everyone else has written.

1: If you go the ROTC route, the military will only pay for your college if you get a ROTC scholarship, which means good grades and good ACT/SAT scores (Think 28 was the lowest ACT score that got a scholarship in my class). Also, a very good mathematics and physics background is good for an Air Force pilot.

2: If you get the ROTC scholarship above, you are obligated to serve either 4 years active and 4 years reserve OR 8 years reserve. This is for any type of scholarship (2, 3, or 4 year). It doesn't matter which type you get the obligation is the same.

3: As for Officers having it better that the enlisted, we do get paid better ( average of about 32-35K for a 2LT butterbar and around 45-50K for a CPT after 4-5 years), but you will put in alot of very long days/weeks/months. The Air Force might be different in this than the Army, but I have spent several ATs getting 2 hours sleep a night compared to an enlisted 4-6 hours. Also, all Officers are considered to be on-duty/call 24/7. Course, that's why we get paid the big bucks.

4: Don't be totally surprised if what you want to do is not what you get to do. The military's needs will override your needs any day of the week.

5: I know the active Air Force has alot of college courses on base, since Officers are required to get a Masters by time they make Major, so make sure you get into some courses while on active duty if you go that way.

6: From what I understand and have seen, the Air Force has the best food and lodging for their soldiers. I can't remember how hard it is for Junior Officers to get lodging on base though. If I remember correctly, it isn't real easy since rank and families get priority.

7: Air Force basic is the easiest of the 4 branches physically, but it can be one of the hardest mentally. Lot more technical training involved with most Air Force AITs. Make sure you get in shape before you go or at least start getting in shape. It will help you out alot more there than if you show up very out of shape.

8: As for being rich, it depends on what rich is. If on active duty, I could make about 50-55K with CPT rank and 7 years of service. This doesn't include flight pay or any type of special pay. To make MAJ, you will need to have a Masters completed. A MAJ with about 8-10 years experience should make about 60-70K depending on dependents, blah, blah, blah.

9: If you want to get into something more physical in the Air Force, either the security force or the search and rescue teams would be a very good pick. Alot of the S&R team memebers end up going to the Army Ranger school among others.

That's the thing. You don't think you are going to die. But realize that if you ever end up out on a battlefield, you could be dead in five minutes. And if they decide to put you in to a battle, you don't have much choice in the matter.

What you have to ask yourself, is that if you sign up, and the country goes to war the day after, and you end up on a battlefield the day after that, are you willing to die?

Make sure to make that choice before you finalize plans to join the military.

Posted by: AK47

Well, I hate to burst everyones bubble, but there isn't going to any major world wars anytime soon- if ever. Simply put, the world- especially the united states- could not "stomach" another world war. Also- if there was a large world war- it would be over sooner than you could blink. Nuclear weapons and other such forces of destructioni could blow apart earth. These weapons stop wars from happening because of their extreme power. No country has the balls to start a nuclear war- and that is how it should be.

ps- I just read the whloe first page of this thread and I missed some things. First of- pepsi man- i admire your choice to join the military, its a very admirable thing to do. I am contemplating the choice my self, but I fear I am not "military type". But they do pay for my college. It is a tough decision, and you I congratulate you for being able to make it. Just one thing- the acuall percent of air force cadets (or whatever they might be called) who actually get to be pilots is somewhere in the 2 percentile range. good luck my man

One more thing- Nova- whats with the "corupt government taking over the world shit"? Stop that. No need for that anywhere. It's not your country, so lay off it.

Posted by: Arta

It's not my country either, but I agree with Nova. And I wouldn't join the British military, for the same reason.

IMHO, there are no circumstances under which it is justified to kill people. Hence, the idea of joining the military is repellent to me. However- life is about choice, and if your choice is to join the military I wish you the best of luck, and I hope your experiences will be beneficial.

Then again, I don't really believe in luck, and all experience is beneficial. Nothing ever happens that is bad, all occurences are God's will, and IMHO the path to happiness lies in the ability to see the perfection in everything. Especially the things we call 'bad'. :P

So go for it mate... if you're sure it's what you want to do.

Not even in self defense? You need to think about that.

Posted by: AK47

think about it- its either the scumbag that just broke into your house, or you. Who is it gonna be?

Posted by: Chako

LB, I was not aware you were in the forces…although it could explain your colorful nicknames (j/k).

As for a war. Yes your right, there probably wouldn’t be another big WW unless someone does something really stupid. Today, the danger is more from small rogue states who would/could use "terror weapons" such as chemical/biological and even (if pushed), nukes. Actually, in retrospect, the way things now stand, it is probably scarier on the world scene. We have China and the US who are still playing stupid cold war games to this day. We have the former USSR who is now divided but no less dangerous for god knows what is going on over there. We have the Middle East, a region that will never know peace, and could flare up at any instant to a much larger conflagration. We have the Baltic nations with their ethnic hatred that is still simmering. We have a very ineffective UN organization. Not to mention Iraq, who from what I hear on the news, is still shaking its fist at the UN.

It is human nature to conflict. History has shown us that there never will be peace all over the world. Right now, the possibility of another World War is negligible, but isn’t that what they said before WW2? You cannot dismiss such things so easily. Why look at Dessert Storm. That could have easily gotten into a hair ball if other Arabic/Russian/Chinese forces got into it.

My first response to his thread still stands, for if no one is prepared to pay the ultimate sacrifice, then our freedom would be nonexistent today.

Posted by: Lord_Buttplug

Just thought of a way you can get rich in the Air Force kinda.

If you do get to be a pilot, make sure you either get a refueling or transport flying slot. Then after a couple thousand of flight hours and the end of your service, you can get a job as an airline pilot making over 6 figures to start. Just food for thought.

As for the war thing, nukes aren't that scary. They are very limited in area and effects. The Biologicals are the scary shit.

Posted by: Freak

Well if you join the Army then you might get into the "Land Warrior" phase that the Army is planning to replace all infantry with. If you watch the Discovery Channel it is some cool sh!t

Posted by: JANNA

i agree with everything Plug has said. )

if we ever getinto another world war to rival WW2 then the WORST place to be is in a civilian area... there were more civilian deaths in WW2 than were suffered by all sides of actual combat troops. unless u lived in the americas during WW2 ur chances of being killed were higher than average enlisted person.

but thanks to clinton here in the US who gave the chinese the ability to launch and accurately target icbms thru the Loral missile deal he concocted the US was the only one left with a real ability to use nukes. while the russians still have them they are so disorganized that i doubt they could use them effectively.

but im in total agreement with Plug it isnt the nukes that are bad its the biological stuff that could actually wipe out the humans on the planet. anyone remember the super flu in the movie The Stand?? that really isnt that far off from what is probably in various labs.

Posted by: Wargasm

hmmm nova i think more ppl got killed by over eating at the local wendy's , then there where american soldiers being shot during the gulf war .
so it is more realistic that pepsi dies of a hamburger or too much pepsi .

course (nice turn around in this topic) when the USA got that nice rocket shield (which europe won't support), they won't need an airforce

I for one, am more worried about Alabama than the Soviet Union.
They are a lot closer and are full of military bases. Plus since the
Crimson Tide has been on a losing streak, they are surly enough
to start flinging Nukes right and left. Especially at Soccer countries. I admit China is also a problem but I suspect they will
more likely Nuke the Koreans and take over the Truck Stop Trinket, Commemorative Plates, and Elvis Figurine markets.
