Trojan Backdoor

I was hacked and a trojan was infected on my computer. It attacked some of my Windows filed and deleted my system32 file. Tell me if this is dangerous and if i can replace it

Since you did not mention what OS you're using (XP or 2K), let's assume this is 2K...

System32 is a folder, not a file (in Win2K, anyway), and if the entire folder was deleted, you would be experiencing some errors now (if you can boot at all) ... so yeah, it is dangerous, altho the fact that you asked if it was makes me wonder if you're experiencing any weird behavior in your system at all, since you should be receiving a message in the form of "Cannot find the file 'C:\WINNT\System32\*" if it was indeed deleted...

Anyway, have your infected computer go here:
http://housecall.antivirus.com

And do a complete virus check on the "infected" drive ... If your System32 folder did indeed get deleted, get your Win2K CD and do a repair installation ... or if you have a computer that is running Win2K and copy the whole System32 folder from it onto your infected computer...

Check these links and see if they help:
http://securityresponse.symantec.co...or.sdbot.d.html
http://securityresponse.symantec.co...door.sdbot.html

Out of curiosity, what antivirus program are you running? If you don't have one, now is the time to get one...

I currently use Windwos XP Build SP1. IT is a sony Vaio from year 2002. To the point. I was online and i recieved a message that said (Backdoor trojan detected cannot delete). I gotoffline then was able to delete. But before i got to that the virus apparently deleted a file known as c:\windows\system32\system32.exe. When i turn on my ocmputer it says an error indication it cannot find this file. I did a complete virus scan and repaired all 83 infected files. I need to know how i can get this file back. And if my system is in danger. I currently use norton antivirus 2003 and norton internet security 2003.

As I said, try a repair installation from your Win2K CD first ... and check the links I posted...

i dont have Win2k i have WinXP home edition

Posted by: Canis Lupus

Oops, do a repair installation from your XP Home Edition CD then ...

The only other thing you can do if that doesn't work is a.) find someone with a system32.exe file that you can copy, or b.) reformat ...

And please stop reposting the same topic over and over again ... use this topic to reply! Thank you...

i tried my friend and he has windows xp home edition yet he does not have system32.exe i have several bios discs drivers discs. I also used my system restore feature, but it did not get the file back

I am beginning to wonder if this System32.exe is even a normal part of XP Home Edition (I don't have XP so I couldn't really tell) ... it might be a remnant of the virus ... if your friend does not have it and his is working just fine, then you probably don't need it either ...

Have you made sure to check the links I gave you?, especially the link to the online antivirus?

Posted by: BoXcArMaN

no but i will check those links....my computer is not acting up, im just annoyed when all this crap pops up when i start my computer saying error

XP Pro doesn't have it, so the Home version probably doesn't have it either.

Try starting msconfig, goto the startup tab and see if you can disable it there.

It's also very important to update your virus scanner frequently, like once a week. New virusses come out all the time and without updating, your virus scanner won't find them.
