Might and Magic VII and VIII Giving Me A Headache!

I could've sworn I posted this before, and I went back and searched the forums, and couldn't find anything. I had to remove the games from my computer. I'm currently running Windows XP...here's the problem. Direct X is not compatible. Alrighty...so I stick the install CD into the drive, and click install. The install shield goes through. Before the install it runs a test for cpu, memory, hard drive space, OS, and DirectX version. I have Direct X 9.0a on my computer. Here's what I get when it runs the test before the install.

CPU: Unknown intel processor 1696MHz/Passed
OS: Windows 95/98 or NT4 SP4 - Windows2000/Passed
Memory: 32mb- 256mb/passed
Hard drive space 375mb- over 5 gigs on each drive/passed
Direct X version: DirectX6- my version says Direct X/failed

Why in the hell doesn't the setup for MM7 and MM8 see the new direct X? I've tried installing the game and running compatibility mode, which doesn't work. I've tried reinstalling DirectX after I finish installing the game, that doesn't help either. Yet...Might and Magic VI works just fine and has no trouble seeing my DirectX. Any idea what the cause is for this? I tried going through 3DO's tech support, and they gave me a list of things to try, but none of them revolves around the Direct X problem. If anyone can help...Thanks!

Sounds like an error in the installer. If 3DO doesnt have an answer you need to just keep hounding them, they should have some type of work around.

I don't know if this means anything...but I think there is a conflict with all of my might and magic games. I went to add/remove programs in the control panel today to get rid of some stuff, and Might and Magic 6, 7, 9, and the Ultimate Archives are all sharing the same icon and file size...something is really screwed up. I think as soon as I figure out what files I need on my OS hard drive and back them up...i'm wiping the damn thing and starting over!

well, I found a pretty good solution. It just turns out that Might and Magics 7 and 8 were not XP compatible...so I bought the platinum edition, and they work just fine, except for one little thing in 7. The sound skips. For example...when creating a character, they all have voices and one is supposed to say "You wanna ride high? Ride with me." and instead I get "You you wanna wanna ride ride high high? Ride ride with with me me." Is there anyway I can fix that? I don't get this problem in 6, 8, or 9. I installed it on my dad's computer, which is using Windows ME, and he's not having this same problem. I can also run the game in compatibility with 95 and 98/ME. And here's what really gets me...the intro and all of the videos play without a problem with the sound at all! The music works fine too. I downloaded the latest drivers for my Audigy sound card, and the latest windows XP updates. Any ideas?

edit: also, the game is at it's latest patch and the platinum edition is made for 95 through XP.
