Paperport and Textbridge Pro

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have Paperport 7.02 and TextBridge Pro 9.03.
I have Windows XP Home.

I bought my Visioneer USB 5800 scanner when I bought my computer; so, all should be compatible.

The problem is that when I scan a document, the scanner cuts off part of the image.

Also, when I scan, the document is opened into PaperPort, but when I drag the file onto the Word 2002 link, and Word opens, the image is all messed up.

I cannot get anything (text) to scan correctly nor to copy with OCR quality into Word 2002.

Visioneer won't offer any help nor will Gateway.

Please, help me if you can.

Thanks a lot.

I am still seeking help in regard to my scanner problems.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

Well first, just glancing at ScanSoft's site with regards to the software packages, I can tell a few things.

Both PaperPort 7 and TextBridge 9 are considered legacy software by ScanSoft. This means that they were released quite some time ago, and are end of life. Definitely no guarentees they will work well in XP. In fact, ScanSoft specifically notes in at least one spot on their support pages that TextBridge 9 is not XP compatible.

The one thing I did see that you can try is getting all of the patches available for PaperPort and TextBridge, if you haven't done so. At least one of the patches appeared to be related to your troubles.

As for the scanner itself, I dunno. Seeing from Visioneer's site that it is a flat-bed scanner, you should not get any image clipping at all. Does it seem to happen at a certain point, or is it random? If you scan a small picture, do you get all the image? What about a large picture/document that covers the whole scanning region?

Thanks for your reply.

I have gone to that site many times and never could find the information you told me. Sometimes it helps to see things through someone else's eyes.

I have resolved the clipping problem. I mean, now when I scan, I do get the entire document, picture, etc.

I still cannot scan a document, have it open in PaperPort and then drag it onto the Word link. When it opens in Word, it is goobley gook.

I don't understand the incompatibility issue since Gateway sold me my scanner at the time I bought my computer from them.

So, a big "jeers" to Gateway and to Visioneer for its crappy scanner and software.

Could you, by chance, recommend a brand of scanner that DOES work?

Thanks for the reply and help.

HPs and Cannons are good. Thats what we use in the office I work in. And some of the people I work with have to do scanning and OCR work on hundreds of pages of text as a part of their job.

Again, thanks for the reply.

Do you know a particular HP or a particular Cannon that is good?

I am just leary of buying another scanner after all the turmoil I have gone through with Visioneer, PaperPort and TextBridge Pro.

Thanks.
