The "G5". Rumor has it that their going to be based on IBM PPC970 chips. There was a leak a few days ago. Someone at apple.com put the specs up too early and some people caught a glimpse of them.

Dual 2ghz 64bit CPUs with 1ghz FSB, up to 8gb of ram(might have been 12gb), SATA support and some other goodies. Also available: 1.6ghz and 1.8ghz. The FSB is half of the systems CPU speed, so the 1.6 would have an 800mhz FSB and the 1.8ghz a 900mhz FSB.

Sounds yummy I wanna know how much. Im guessing $4000.

Its official now. Wheres neo to say "Whoa..."

"check it out man, it has a twenty eight point eight k-b-p-s modem!"

"it's triple the speed of the pentium!"

"not only that, it has a PCI bus!"

wow !!

Too bad according to this a P4 3.0 system with a 9700 Pro got 401fps in Q3.

But I guess you don't buy Macs for gaming.

It's funny, apple doesn't even sell G5s with those cards. According to their site you can only get geforce 5200s or radeon 9600s

For god sakes, Quake 3 seriously needs to stop being used as a benchmark. Is there any monitor out there that has a 400hz refresh rate? I think not.

Posted by: Null Actor

Quake 3 is the newest mac game available.

That might not have been up yet, but I just configured one with a 9800. It adds $300 to the pricetag.

I was $1000 off on the price. The stock Dual 2ghz system is $2999 alone. Throw in a 23" HD Cinema display and its a cool $5k

Personally, i think Microsoft computers are better than mac for the speed, cd and dvd burning, (macs can only burn dvd-r and rw, windows can burn dvd-r and dvd+r and rw) and the software that runs better, but the problem with windows is that the system slows down(especially after its a year old) whereas mac doesnt really slow down. and by the way, macs cant be sold for about $4000. the most expensive microcomputer thats microsoft is a dell which can cost up to $2500-3000 fully optimized with programs and storage.

Microsoft doesnt make computers. IMO, macs are a bit overpriced.

...

ok.

i meant to say the computer that uses microsoft, not the system itself, my fault. but i still think that microsoft is better than mac.

Posted by: madman55

besides, everything about games works better on microsoft than on mac. but i've heard that recording music on mac is better than on microsoft.

Macs cheaper than PCs? What a laugh.

You can buy a Radeon 9800 for the G5s. UT 2003 and SimCity 4 have been out for Mac for a while now. Those are the newest games I know of since I don't buy or look at games. If there are any newer better games out for PC don't hesitate to say so, and I know you won't.

I think that you might want to check the prices, Macs are way more expensive than equivalent PCs. The only time where a mac is remotely less expensive or even the same price is the mobile the devision. And can somebody justify spending $500 for a 40 gb iPod? The 30 gb zen is only $250.

Why? Because the companies know, a suckers born every minute....

"An upgrade? Damn, I gotta get me one of those now!"

I bought the 15gb iPod back in may for 400$USD, and it's the best money I've ever spent. The zen might be only 250$, but from everything I've heard, they have issues and reliability problems. The iPod is tiny, built like a mother****ing brick (I've crushed it, dropped it, sat on it, you name it, still works perfectly), and has a seriously awesome and simple UI. It's also significantly lighter and smaller. Shit, the iPod is worth it just for the circular touchpad, which makes going through the menus absurdly quick.

If you want just an mp3 player, the zen is fine, but if you want the best, then the iPod is definitely it.
