PhotoShop Image Slice?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

How come that when I slice an image and save it as a webpage. It is all distorted because of the HTML I add in it. Is thier a certain way you have to do it?

Here's what it looks like:

Heres how I want it to look:

Any suggestions? Hints? Help?

Hmmm, no offense, but the table coding is a mess, and the slices are uneven and irregular ... don't know where to start giving suggestions coz it's hard to make sense on what you're trying to do, hehee

Anyway, here are my suggestions anyway ...

1.) Sometimes less is more. Bigger and fewer slices are better than numerous nibble slices from the image. Why not slice it in a way that two image pieces are on the left menubar and one big image is on the header-right? If you want an example, check the layout on THIS site...

2.) You have to be more careful on those table tags... they can get real messy real quick. Find out where the table tags end and where they start again, and be sure to CLOSE all table tags, down to the last </td> and </tr> ... improperly closed table tags will just inherit the next closing tag of the table succeeding it, and that gives you a sh!tstorm with the layout.

3.) If you plan to put some text OVER the slices themselves (like the way I put the buttons on top of the image on the menubar on the left in OTS), then define the exact height and width of the cells where the images are, and place the images as a table or cell background instead of inserting that image in the cell. This would create the effect of depth.

4.) Imagine where you want to place the content table on your page (the middle table, in other words). If you're using SSI or a CGI script to dynamically insert the content in the middle of your content table, then MAKE SURE the tables tags that the script will be using will not disrupt your current layout. Always make sure to align="top" on the middle cell, so it won't center itself...

5.) Tables are very messy to work with if you don't know how to exactly lay out your site. Make a written diagram on how the cells and tables will be constructed, as well as where the image slices will go. This will give you a good idea on how to split your cells and define where the content table will go.

You have a copy of the template of this site, Bob ... try to study it and you'll eventually figure it out. If you need help, lemme know - although I would have to know what you mean to do with the layout so I don't have to do a lotta guesswork
