I can't run Diablo 2 or LOD.

Ok here's the picture... I install it fine, but it wont load up, in any compatibility mode. When I start it up without any change in compatibility mode, the screen goes black for a sec like it's video testing, then it goes straight back to windows, nothing happens. When I change the compatibility mode to 95/98/me it gives me the FT_Thunk (kernel32.dll) error or:

Sometimes the Please insert play disc error...

It works fine on my old computer... Win98 500 mhz 192 ram, 32 mb vid card... piece'a junk, but on my dell??
2.39 ghz
512 mb DDR
Radeon 9700 pro
60 gig hd.......
When I try to install the expansion all it does is tell me the version of D2 has to be the same as D2X... when they ARE. I've tried everything from contacting Dell to Blizz (not microsoft though) and all I've gotten is a command to go to the other company. Blizz just told me they couldn't help and wouldn't even bother...
Is it XP or my hardware or what??? I just wanna play a freakin game!
When I try to install LOD I get an error saying that the version of D2 has to be the same as LOD.
I'm thinkin about installing Win98 on my computer to see if that will work... But im running XP and I don't wanna have to back up my 10+gigs worth of songs before I have to FDISC and switch NFTS to FAT (or vice versa?? I might wanna know that). Anyway... some advice please!

is this diablo // latest version? as we had the same problem so got the latest version or the the most recent version as the old version diablo// would not work and took forever to load and didn't work till got the new one and no problem since yet we had the same errror mostly saying please insert play disk and for some reason it would not read it anymore/no damage or anything cant figure that out unless the new lite on cdrw cant seem to read it. any way good luck

Well, Blizzard has pages on both the "Please insert play disc" and the "Unhandled exception c0000005" errors, but both of the issues have always been cloudy.
You mentioned you owned a Dell computer, do you have a Samsung SM-308B or SN-308B drive? If so, check here particularly.
