Star Wars DVD?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Just heard that Episode I will be available in DVD this October:

http://www.starwars.com/episode-i/n...ws20010619.html

So my question is, where the HELL are the DVD versions for the BETTER Star Wars movies (Episode IV-VI)?

hmmm i got episode 1 on video (vcr) hehe

Hmmm...I will sum it up in 3 words.......Jar Jar Binks.

Actually I hear there is a bootleg version circulating out there of a fan who fixed episode 1 by altering the movie...guess what they did, they removed most of Jar Jar Binks, made Anakin Skywalker more ominous, and several other things I don't remember.

Posted by: Bishop

I'll pay more money for that version than I would for the original.

Posted by: Spider

Wait, you mean Lucas Films Ltd. is publishing their movies on DVD now?? Should have posted that in the news, Laggy

Posted by: Canis Lupus

Hehe spidey, I was tempted ... but I didn't know if it was gonna be news-worthy ... after all, it IS just Episode 1....

Posted by: Spider

lol. Yeah, but Lucasfilm doesn't have *any* of their movies on DVD, been waiting forever for them to come out, guess they're going to now, just one at a time it seems ...

Posted by: Canis Lupus

Okay, posted it in the news ... it's kinda been a slow news day so why not?

hehehe

...be glad that you are even getting Episode I on DVD. The reason you wont be seeing any of the "good" Star Wars movies on DVD is all because of George Lucas. His original plan was to release all 6 Star Wars movies on DVD when they were all completed. Thats right- sort of a box set. And what a box set that would be! Anyways, I'm not sure why he decided to give up on this and release Episode I this fall. My guess is that there is great demand for it. To which I say- hey! I demand the rest of the series! Well, the whole "all at once" plan is something I heard straight from Lucas on one of those "entertainment tonight" shows. Since he allready broke form and is planning to release EP I, I sure as hell hope he does the same with the original 3 movies. Damn I want Empire on DVD!!!!!! well- thats all I know, I hope it clears things up.

Maybe he realized that episode 1 was not great let alone good enough to nestle amongst the older ones in a DVD pack. Just a thought.
I was severely insulted with episode one. I can remember seeing the original Star Wars out in a drive in theater. It was awesome, bigger then life, and ground breaking. Nothing compared to it before hand. It set the stage for Empire Strike Back and Return of the Jedi. The Phantom Menace was pathetic. Many including myself felt that too much time passes between the first 3 and the last horrible one. Yes, special effects are much better today, but FX does not make a movie….and that is the sadness of the last atrocity; there was very little story. I hope Lucas has learned his lesson, and makes the other 2 worthy of the fan base..

the main difference between episode 1 and the other three SW movies was that during the making of the first 3 Lucas was on some serious drugs and not listening to anyone else. u can see by the end of return of the Jedi he was starting to dry out hence we get Ewoks that kill armoured stormtroopers with rocks.... Lucas do us all a favour and start doing drugs again!!

my main problem with episode 1 (besides everything already said) is that it changes alot of stuff the liscensed books and comics said.

if you're going to give an author the ability to further enhance on your storyline, you do NOT go and change it a few years down the road.

I seriously hope he doesn't try and do anything after the movies, everything from the day after rotj up to about 16 years into the future has been already booked or comiced.

I heard George Lucas originally wanted to release his movies in the DIVX format, so he could charge people for viewing it. Didn't he have a strong interest in the format?

Divx is a ripped/pirated version of Micro$ofts new video thing, so i dont think George Lucas would ever use that.

Primary gripes with the "altered storyline":

1.) Midi-chlorians
2.) Qui-gon Jinn being Obi-Wan's master ... in Empire, Obi said Yoda was his master...
3.) Anakin being the creator of C-3PO.

There are some others but they're spotty and obscure, and can only be recognized by those who followed the books after ROTJ (like Trial at Bakura, Heir to the Empire, The Jedi Academy, the X-Wing series and a host of others - yeah, I read almost all of them).

I am pretty much looking forward to Episode II .. I mean, it can't POSSIBLY be any worse, can it? (crosses fingers)

p.s. Strangely, I kinda liked Episode 1 ... it just sucked compared to the first (or last) three...

No, you are thinking of Divx ;-), which is different from DIVX. DIVX was originally a proprietary DVD format that only worked on a web connected DIVX player, which would require you to pay each time you watched the movie, even if you owned the DIVX disc.

Needless to say it was beaten down and didn't catch on.

My thoughts exactly. I could totally chop up episode 1 to be infinitely better, but then george lucas would sue me.

No, that is the "new" Divx terminology ... the one Slinky is referring to is the now-defunct DivX format being planned to use for subscription purposes ... if I remember it right, it allowed you to view a movie for a specific amount of time, but after the alloted time expires, the movie will refuse to work ... please correct me if I'm wrong

See my previous post... slowpoke!

It's kinda hard to type fast when you're looking over your shoulder and pausing/alt-tabbing when the manager comes in to check, y'know

lol

Posted by: Bishop

exactly laggy.

although from the post on tg a year ago, what I saw on episode 2 is going to suck story-wise.

One of the primary villains is supposed to be.... Jango Fett.

and when he dies, his bastard child (he must be, since he was really born as mareel) boba fett takes over slave 1 and SWEARS VENGANCE ON THE SKYWALKERS.

I doubt this will be what actually happens but you never know.

Posted by: JANNA

also the little thing about obi wan in the original movies saying it was he who took the training of anakin on himself. yet in #1 yoda and the council forced it on him...

so what im wondering is Jar-Jar going to be piloting a ship next to anakin in the Clone-wars?? or will be it a hybrid wookie-jarjar-ewok cross as the next cuddly silly excuse for a creature??

ehmm....oops
hehe, i got a double quote

I'll probably wait for the next 2 movies to come out on DVD and then try to get a 6 in 1 bundle..hehe

What I think is cool is that you can buy sci-fi shows by season now. I just baught the first season of Stargate SG-1 for 90$. Hopefully I can buy other shows first season like Andromeda and Farscape. I'll probably get Farscapes even though I have never seen it. I hear it's pretty good and even bad sci-fi is good to me.

Posted by: Bishop

I wouldn't mind spending up to 200$ on every season of b5 on dvd plus all of the movies.

Posted by: Chako

Speaking of DVDs, I don’t even have a DVD player for my puter let alone one for my Surround Sound setup in the living room….

Posted by: AK47

Man, I remember divx. What a stupid ass idea. Buy a DVD player that is "divx enhanched" so it can play movies that you own, but you have to pay to watch. Briliant! and, where I'm from, the whole divx expierence was only available through 1 store- Circuit City. I dont know it thats how it was all throughout the country, but when I saw that you could only get divx from one store- I knew it was destined to fail. divx- what a stupid ass idea.

Posted by: SuperSlinky

DIVX was made so big names like Lucasfilm and Disney could make $$$ off of viewings. They don't like the thought of people owning a digital copy of a big movie that could be watched at will. If DIVX was still around, I doubt Episode I or any Star Wars movie would be made available on DVD. Or maybe they would, but just for a limited time, like Disney has done with it's classics.

Posted by: Spider

You got to watch the DIVX like 4 times or something before you had to start paying like PayPerView though, and it only cost like three dollars to buy them, the players were expensive though..

Posted by: Chako

AK47, Divx was much like that up here also. Most people stayed away from it like the plague, at least the smart ones did anyhow.

Posted by: TotalRecall

Ion, the blue on your signature isn't easy to read.

Posted by: Gerbilo

Ion, youre back!! hehe

yeah, i'm waiting for them to come out on DVD....

i dunno, the old ones just seemed better than the new one, maybe because the old ones were there since i was a littlebugger.. andbecause they are a helluva lot better tobegin with

lol AK
